You don't have to have seen the movie to know about it. It got a lot of press when it came out due to its controversial story.

There's no need to breastfeed in public. It's a demand for attention...you can take the kid into the ladies' room or something...gimmee a break.

Just another manifestation of the desperate need for some in the next generation coming up, or for those who pretend not to know our customs, to kick the can & make a ruckus.

I was on a commuter train once when this Third World guy changed his little tax refund's DIAPERS right on the seat behind me. Geez, the smell. The rest room was equipped with those tables that fold down out of the wall, too. True Story.

I breastfed, and my daughter, even as a newborn, would never let me put a blanket over her. She would cry and swat at it. It is not so easy to be discreet all of the time. As a result, I ended up feeding her in many disgusting dirty bathrooms. I would have much rather fed her in public, but I knew that I would get some glares and stares. I think that with my next child I will just feed the baby out in public. It is disgusting to have to feed a child in a dirty bathroom stall. Also, my baby was huge and ate every 2 hours for the first couple of months, I had to feed her outside of the house sometimes, and when a baby is hungry you must feed him/her. It isn't always easy to go somewhere more discreet.

Also, I breastfed my baby for the first 12 months, but introduced formula mixed with cereal at 6 months old. She developed hives all over her body b/c she is allergic to dairy. I am very grateful that I didn't feed her formula as a newborn. It would have been terrible for her. However, she was breastfed and has terrible food allergies and eczema.

As far as co-sleeping goes, my brother died of SIDS while co-sleeping with my parents. For this reason, and b/c I am a very deep sleeper, when never co-slept. She was always a great sleeper though, and likes her space. She loves her crib.

Everyone needs to make their own parenting decisions, but I believe that breastfeeding in public should be accepted. I also think it is ok if you decide to formula feed. Everyone needs to make the choices that they believe are best for their family.

I come from a family of 8 kids. I was 4th, which means that I remember at least 3 of my younger siblings hanging on mom's breast for nourishment. It was no big deal at home, should be no big deal in public. When will Americans mature to the big picture of Nature? Kids gotta feed, we need to let it happen naturally.

Maggie Gyllenhaal is just another of those "new Mommys" who want everyone to glory in the wonderment of her baby and her mommyhood. She probably talks endlessly about every minute of labor and childbirth, and even has advice for other moms. Moms like her think this hasn't been going on for ages because it's new to her.

My friends and I laugh about how obsessed we were with being "natural" and "earthy" moms. Believe me, after Maggie G. has had 2 or 3 more babies, she will look back and say "I didn't need to do that." You just throw a shirt or blanket over your boob if you need to feed the kid. The baby doesn't care.
