...while we are on the subject, how about APU's 4x8 team at last years Penn Relays... 3rd place against the best schools in the nation, and a school record...

Yea but what could have Rono ran that year before. A lot faster than 1:57 Im sure. THat was probably a workout race or something. That guys got wheels!
Yea definately. Definately sub-1:55, close to around 1:51-1:52. When he ran 1:57 it was i wanna say 20min after he ran a 1500m in really windy conditions. I think this year he couldve probably gone sub-1:50 in just an open 800m with some 1:47-1:48 guys.

...and he is helping out at Azusa. And he is the owner of a really cool VW Bug. I think it is a 59. In fact, that seems to be a common denominator for some of the 800 runners at APU over the last few years. They like old, old VWs. Its not a prerequisite to get onto the team, but the subject certainly is brought up by coaches during the screening process. 3 of the 4 runners on the 2006 own VWs; bugs or buses. Lets just put it this way: Azusa Pacific 4x800-3/4 of team has VWs=5 straight 4x800 NAIA titles. Mariposa School of Applied Textiles 4x800-0/4 of team has VWs=0 straight 4x800 NAIA titles...You do the math...
i'd love to take the rear window of a late 50's/ early 60's VW bug (the oval ones) and put it into a chopped and lowered '48 Mercury, '52 Bel Air, or possibly '53 Buick.

Well said. Have you ever considered running for APU...perhaps on their 4x800 team? Or perhaps you already have...
Aren't you wasting points trying to win relays when you've kept some of your best runners out of more races? They got 10 points out of the relay, but I noticed Rono didn't run the 5000. Without the 4x800 anchor couldn't he have won the 5000 or maybe done better in the 1500? And wouldn't it have freed up some other runners? It looks like Sherman was too tired to do well in the steeplechase after his leg in the 4x800 and Jason Z. didn't have a great final in the 800 with all his races. I see that Lynch only ran the relays. Maybe he runs a faster leg in the 4x400 and Azusa gets some points there too. I don't think it would have made any difference in this meet. OBU was too far ahead. Its a great thing to win that many titles in the 4x800, but is there a point where it is too costly?
i dont see a valid point... jason ran 5 151-2's the entire weekend... just got boxed in the final... caleb ran both the prelims and finals on both relays... another 3 800s would have been too much (7 races)... are you forgeting that rono ran the 10000... are you saying he should have run the 5000, 10000, and the 1500... if so that is just rediculous... and as for sherman, they didnt really have much of a choice, plus he only had 4 races the entire weekend. he wanted to be on the team and he got what he wanted... it was a bummer for his steeple final but hes got heart... that wasnt too smart of you to post
and they still won... 5 straight... maybe that was more important... id say its pretty cool
Good point.
Next year they should take OBU's approach. Rest their big guns, not make the finals in the relay, and than not have all of their big guns make their individual finals.
