Unbelievable! So, does that mean that 60% of people born in America came from parents without access to enough food. I wonder how their study accounts for Asians.
Good find Willy.
Not any more strange than claiming people are born gay.
Actually, it is. This article seems to give credence for widespread obesity, not just the anamoly which both obesity and homosexuality are.
Stay inside that box. That's just the type of puppet needed to keep the status quo that right wing extremists so desperately cling to. I guess there is such a thing as selective science' in your case. "I will believe only the science that suits me" is a dangerous practice.
Just the typical name calling and labeling that liberals use to advance their left wing, intollerant and out-of-the-mainstream ideas. I can't agrue the facts, so I'll call them names is the mantra of liberalism today.
"I take huge leaps of faith to fill holes that science can't explain" is not only dangerous, it shows the extremes liberals will go to in a laughable attempt to spread their destructive ideals.
Mr. Fallwell, aaa, errr, Peter's Piper, Please reread my post. No names, no attacks, ... You called MY view intollerant? All I ask is that you think for yourself, especially when science is involved which is emotionless. I guess all humans are born the same in every aspect of their being. Sorry for the error. Please take all the cracks at me you wish. I won't waste my effort with a response. Please, please, learn to think for yourself and form your own ideology based upon facts if possible.

Man, I KNEW that would come up, but I'm surprised that it took the second response instead of the first one.
Here's the difference:
First of all, sitting on a couch and watching television and eating all the crap you want is pleasing to MOST people - living with the consequences is not pleasing to most people which is why not EVERYONE does that, but the act of being a couch potato is pleasing to most people, and MOST people in the US were not nutritionally starved while in the womb as the aforementioned study suggests. Being gay is NOT the preference of most people. Even if you believe that 10% of people are gay (I think that's a little high, but I could believe 5%) that's still a small percentage, and way smaller than the large percentage of people who are fat slobs.
Secondly, MANY formerly overweight people have changed their behavior so that they are now fit and healthy, but comparatively few homosexuals have actually changed theirs.
Thirdly, being fat or sedendary is very detrimental to your health and can lead to long term disability, crappy quality of life, early death. I know that many of you will point to AIDS and say the same thing, and yes that is a concern for homosexuals - especially men, but heterosexuals get that disease too, and you can be gay without engaging in behavior that leaves yourself open for that virus, but you can't be fat and sedentary and not leave yourslef open for serious health problems.
Bottom line is that this is just another excuse for fat lazy people to continue eating crap and getting fatter. If you think that the gay comparison is a fair one, then you believe that most people have gay feelings and would choose to act on those feelings if everyone gave the "go ahead" signal.
Yes.
This explains why all thos undernourished mothers Kenya have overweight children.
NO ONE IS BORN GAY!
It is not natural, does not fit into procreation and is a trait that is acquired (by choice over time). I am always right so don't even try to argue.
As always, Dr. Phil, you are correct.
Next!
Since returning from Asia last week I have been shocked to see how many truly FAT and OBESE folks we have in America.
Like yesterday I went grocery shopping with my parents, and we loaded up on the usual fresh vegetables, fruit, oatmeal, polenta, pasta, tofu, etc etc etc and the rest of the check out aisle had the fatties with their massive stacks of TV Dinners, hamburger patties, coca-cola cases, potato chips , etc.
So are you saying that obese people are born gay?

Neither is running 100 miles a week (or even "just" 50 miles a week).
People are gay, get over it already. Remember your dogma is just one of many. It is kind of funny that seemingly educated people are continuely frustrated by someone else's sexuality.
Every fast food place super sizes everything.
More fat = larger asses.
Dr. Phil,
What's not natural? Having a minority quality is not natural?
Ok then, I guess the following are not natural:
1) Red Hair
2) Huge Schlong
3) Lefthandedness
4) Myopia
5) Deafness
6) Blindness
7) Infertility
How do you know homosexuality isn't natural. Perhaps it EXACTLY IS natural - keeps the population in check a little bit. I for one would like to see a greater population of gays so that the lines at Kings Island might be smaller.
If the bese evolution could do to weed out the population is to "create" fags and AIDS, then it's no damn wonder you morons think you're uncle is an Ape.
When God our creator says that homosexuality is an abomination, then I would say that is a pretty good reason to say it is not natural.

Flagpole, observer is correct, IMHO. I infer from your post that you feel it was irresponsible to publish the study. But science is science. The study should be reported and its conclusions debated on their merits, not canned because they are inconvenient or undesirable.
Americans have been getting fatter for decades, so the current generation of children ahould be lean according to this study. Yet, we're seeing record rates of childhood obesity, not to mention formerly "adult" diseases such as adult-onset diabetes in children. Apparently, either humans and rats aren't that close in this situation or the study itself was flawed. Certainly there's no way to tell from that skimpy article.
A side note: my wife and I were on the road to the in-laws friday and decided to stop for dinner along the way. We went into a national chain sit-down place (TGIFridays, Ruby Tuesday, etc., I can't tell the difference). All we were looking for was a sandwich and a side. My wife decides to get a burger (something she rarely does) and the thing was huge. I mean we could've split it no problem. She left some on the plate. Almost every sandwich came with cheese, bacon, mayo, or some kind of fat-based dressing. I wound up with a turkey club, hold the bacon and mayo. The side? Fries of course. No choices, that's what you get with a sandwich. I don't mind eating this way once in a great while, but I pity people who are on the road a lot. You really don't have a lot of options. I'm sure that there was a decent place serving good food not far from where we were, but when you're from out of town, you're stuck. While we're there I'm looking around at people, and man, it's SAD. It's like pigs at a trough. HUGE portions, insane amounts of soda (liquid candy), and we wonder why we have an obesity problem? Oh yeah, it's because the mothers aren't getting enough food. Now, THAT'S logical...
