Just ran there last week while on business. Find streets that lead west (Church, maybe?) from downtown toward Vanderbilt U. and the Parthenon park. You will have to cross a bridge over the interstate, I-65 I think. There is a mile-loop paved trail around the Parthenon and a duck pond. Lots of joggers/walkers, moms with strollers, ducks, etc., to dodge though. It was annoying but the park was pretty.
I was staying at the Holiday Inn Select on Broadway across from the park. I did two loops, went downtown along Church, back to Parthenon and three more loops for about 8-9 miles. Might be some trail runs with less traffic but I don't know about them. Hope that helps. Maybe someone knows the city better than me.
Go to NashvilleStriders.com. Go to course maps. Look at Tom King Half Marathon course for a longer run (about 14 to 15 miles round trip run from your hotel) to some of the shorter race courses in the downtown area. The Germantown 5k course will total, probably, 6 miles from your hotel. Your hotel is on 4th street, between Union and Deaderick if you want to locate it on one of the course maps. If you have a vehicle, Percy Warner Park and Belle Meade Boulevard can't be beat. It will take about 20 minutes to drive in traffic but PWP is one of the largest municipal parks in the country and has miles of trails and very lightly traveled roads. Its one of the major running areas. You can also post a thread on the Striders site and ask if there will be any groups running in the downtown area on the days you will be there. If you have a car, I suspect that there will be at least one race in the area while you're in Nashville.
Head across the shelby street pedestrian bridge near the stadium and then go south (river on right) on Davidson to Shelby Park and then Shelby Bottoms. That might take you 3-3.5 miles and then you have off road running with bike path as well of maybe another 3-4 miles in the bottoms area.
Google "Shelby Bottoms Greenway." From downtown you'll have to drive probably 10 minutes to get to the greenway park but it's worth it. A lot less congested than the Parthenon park (although that will do if you're in a time crunch), but there are several easy access points to this trail and it's a beautiful, flat path that goes for miles.
