I wouldn't go so far as to say a piece of shit. Just an uneducated, unintelligent man. When you ask an unintelligent person for their opinion, you're going to get an ignorant answer. As simple as that.

Are they not the same thing? In my opinion, a guy who recieves a free college education and is still considered to be "uneducated" is by definition a piece of shit. Reading that quote, I think the guy is trash.
Then stop watching football if it bothers you so much. There is much worse out there.
Idiot.
I don't watch football all that much to begin with. I realize that there is much worse out there, but that doesn't mean that I don't think that this guy (along with many other athletes) is a thug. Why does this make me an idiot?
pinche moreno miates. way to set us minorities back 200 years fool.

Hmm. From what I know of him, Portis doesn't seem like all that bad of a guy. Gives some back, works with some organization, etc. As far as pro ball goes, could be much worse. I understand your point. All I'm saying is that when you ask someone who isn't all that bright for their opinion, well you've gotta take it with a grain of salt.

He really is not that bright. You can't fault him on that. He just went with the idea that the press gets on his case all the time and they need to let him be. He assumes it happens to Vick too and there you go. Actaully if you read his first quote it almost seems like he thinks Vick fights with the dog.
I hate to seem racist, but are you REALLY surprised? Is this not the norm, athlete or otherwise? Let's be honest.
why should the f***in federal goverenment be all in athletes business, mike vick is an excellant athlete who has only help his home community, its the same bull shit as the congress forcing baseball to change its roids rules, goverenment should stay out of sports, why not try to stop poverty or think about how the f*** 40 years from now i am gunnma get socail security
Because he is committing a FEDERAL offense genius!!! Mike Vick is an excellent athlete that gives back, huh??? The only thing I heard worth noting is that he got sued for knowingly giving some girl herpes.
Take a look at his idiot brother too. Drinking/having sex with minors, pulling a gun on a kid at McDonalds, busted for drugs multiple times, kicked out of college....SURPRISE!!! They are both a waste society who give NOTHING back.

They generate millions in revenue for their corporate masters in the NCAA, NFL, and television networks.

I'm not exactly sure that I see your point....
A. How is this giving back??
B. Is enough to counteract all of the negative they do?
They are both completely worthless as far as I’m concerned….
And to correct your statement…Mike may generate millions; Marcus does not have a job—he was on league minimum, played in maybe 3 plays, and was cut. He probably doesn’t care because he is a thug, but a college education would be great for him about now. He’ll just make his money dog fighting now.

I agree with the above statements. Also--why is Portis labeled a thug? Sure he sounds ignorant in this interview, but calling him a thug makes you a racist. Besides, the real issue is about Vick and the crime he's being accused of. If he's found guilty, in my opinion, he's deserving of some jail time, and would be far from a 'contributing member' to any community.
So, what is the big deal about his comments? He just told people tp mind their business. I'll bet those comments are made out of frustration from being under the microscope. That's not something that makes a guys a piece of trash or shit, or whatever.

I am an avid runner and a regular poster, but this thread has, more than any thread in the past, revealed the strong sense of racism that exist in this Letsrun community. This is utterly embarassing.
"Piece of shit"..."deserving of some jail time"..."typical thug"?? This type of language generates the ignorance of racism by feeding it negative energy stemmed from personal feelings about others that you have NO knowledge of.
I don't care about Mike Vick unless he gets busted for drugs or goes to the superbowl. You decide which is more likely.
i'm guessing the reporter knew he could get a good quote from portis. do you think they'd have gotten the same kind of quote from a guy like donovan mcnabb? guys like randy moss or portis give better quotes, so they're asked more questions like this. portis just gave an ignorant view on something he gives two shits about. the media has gone on and on about this, and i'm sick of hearing about it too.

Give me a break....racism??
Portis, Vick, etc ARE THUGS. That's not racism at all. Look at the culture where DOG FIGHTS take place. You see them plastered ALL over the media in "thug" cultures where the subjects happily label themselves as "thugs."
For Portis to say that a FEDERAL offense, "must not be that bad of a crime." THEN offering to take the reporter "down some roads" to show dogs fights IS THUG nature.
Furthermore, ANYONE who thinks starving dogs or any living creature then forcing them to fight to kill over money is ok or others should mind their own business should be subject to the same treatment. Portis, Vick, etc should be put in a position to defend their lives someday....I won't tell you who I'd root for, but I'm sure you can take a good guess. Vick seems VERY guilty to me and Portis has diarrhea of the mouth...they are both TRASH.
