Small Western Mass. local run (80 runners), and 1st place was too far ahead to make a challenge. So I opted for making it training run pace and hung onto 2nd overall, even though my overall 10K time was really sub-par. I feel kinda bad about holding back, but two factors were in play - a $50.00 check for 2nd and an important team race in Bedford, NH, next weekend. I took the $$$, and look forward to feeling fresh next weekend. Does this suck? Should I have gone for time instead of position (for the ching)? BTW, I'm M-52 YO.
