Based on his early season performances I think Alan Webb is ready to take the record. I sort of hate to see it go. Steve Scott was a great miler and one of the nicest guys in the world. I think if he wanted to he could still go sub 4:00

In what race will he do it this year? Pre is too early to be in peak shape, and Oslo is the week before USAs. Good luck on getting a Golden League meet to switch the 1500 to this "odd distance" that none of the locals know well.
Lagat has a better shot than Webb. If runs the right races, by the time he goes to Bejing he will hold every AR from the 1000m to the 5k.
1000m? wow, even more awkward then the full mile.
Berlin is a golden league meet and some years they have a mile event instead of 1500m. London is not golden league, but they hold a mile race and have had some fast ones before. Both events have meet records faster than the US record, so with good rabbits, Webb would have a shot if he is in 3:47 shape

There are almost no mile races after the middle of June. If no one gets it in Oslo, they won't get it.
