I am wondering if I should move down in distance, not necessarily training-wise, but more racewise.
I am 6' 3'', and weigh a little over 180, my pr's for distances I have race recently are :
800: 2:08
Mile: 4:40
3000: 9:35
5000: 16:29
8k cross: 27:17
When these PR's were set, I was about 170 pounds or a little more and doing about 50 miles per week. Most of the additional weight has come in upper body muscle mass, rather than fat (I have still been running around 40 miles a week, but I have been sick and injured some this season. These 200's felt pretty hard, but not like an all out effort, although the last one was close. Granted, they were hand timed, and I had a slight wind at my back, but I did not have spikes on and I was a little fatigued by the last one. With my frame and better speed at my current weight, I think I might try something shorter than 5000.
Does this seem to indicate a possible shift in towards the 800 might be warrented? I have never raced one really well, but I think I could go a lot faster than 2:08.
