"Not to be critical" - always followed by a criticism
"Average" - nice way of saying not good

Not to be critical, but most of those aren't opposite.
Dude that was (sick/wicked/the shit)!
"I see your point" ...always followed by a "but" which indicates that you really don't.
He didn't say they were opposites, right? he just said they usually are used in everyday speech for the opposite meaning.
"I just deal with it."
Meaning, "I just accept it and avoid doing anything about it."
"Acting out," used when someone is not acting at all, but is expressing sincere and intense emotions.
(Note: "acting out" is this context is just a mangling of the correct expression "acting up," meaning misbehaving or throwing a tantrum.)
When mail says "Important" on the envelope, it's always unimportant spam.
"I'll keep it in mind" - I'll forgot that idea as soon as you leave the room.

How about when, while trying to foster open communication / brainstorming, people say, "every comment/idea is a good one and welcomed."
That's BS... it means the facilitator intends for the exercise to continue no matter how incredibly inept your comment or idea is. Meanwhile, to several, it means it's open season to see and confirm who the indescretionate stupid people are. AND, if the comment is bad enough, you just might be able to end the whole meeting. Go for it. There is NO bad idea, and EVERY comment is welcomed.

"F--- You!"
Anyone else notice this one?
I never could understand its meaning. Isn't it generally used toward people you would NOT want to have sex with?

"I hate to say it BUT"
nonplussed -- so often misapplied as "unfazed"; drives me nuts.
My teenaged cousin endlessly uses the word "nasty" when he in fact means the opposite of nasty. These kids, I swear...

Similarly, Sammy Hagar insisted that he can't drive 55. Of course he can; he just chooses not to. Also, to get up to his desired speed, at some point he would be driving 55, if only for a fraction of a second. Therefore, Sammy Hagar can drive 55.
