I was chatting with a guy the other day who claims his 10000 meter PR is 28:03. Based on his age, this would have happened in the late 60's or early 70's. Does anybody have the all-time American list?

How do you know when it would have happened?
Greg Fredericks set the 10k AR in 1972 28:08 (Shorter ran 27:51 in the Olympics) and ran 28:03 in the 80's Trials.
Billy Mills and Gerry Lindgren set the WR for six miles in 1965, which was as good as 28:03.
Link of past national championships.

I don't know exactly when it would've happened, but he mentioned turning 60, I guess it could have happened later than the early 70's.
Interesting that Frank Shorter made the list from 1969-1984!
Yeah he placed in the top 3 (7 times). Awesome

Very well, then, why don't you give us more color: where are you, what other clues might he given you, etc?
1979, by the way, was simply the most amazing race by an American ever. On a day that it got up to 105 ("it's the dry heat", they even had a water table set up) Virgin simply destroyed the field and Pre's AR.
whoa! what was the deal with 1988? why only 5 (slow) guys?

Tampa, Florida.
That year TAC (as it was called) was held separate from the Trails, so everyone who was good skipped it, just about.
I was there as well...one of the most impressive runs I have ever seen. No rabbits, no competition, no prize money he just hammered solo. I think he lapped the field.

I now have his name and he was definitely a national class runner back in the day...my 10K tidbit above was a bit off. I was told that he ran a 6 miler that equated to a 28:08 10K. He isn't Lindgren, Shorter, Mills and obviously not Pre. Did someone else do this between 1965 and 1975?
