When you have an IT band problem at lot of it could be with your connective tissue. When your connective tissue inflexible your IT band becomes extremely tight and hard to deal with, especially with running.
A common cure is self myofascial release (SMR). Check it out here, you can purchase foam rollers and almost any fitness store.
