Coach Weber has been at Kentucky for quite a while. Although quite a while ago, he did win the 1988 Women's NCAA XC Championship. In recent years he's assembled a very good staff of assistants with Erin Tucker, sprints; Pat Tyson, distance; Doug Reynolds, throws; and himself for middle distance events. Weber has actually had very good middle distance runners through the years, and with limited resources and lots of competition did good things. Basketball has been king there and former ADs didn't really support the other sports. However, Mitch Barnhart has emphasized improving ALL the sports at the school and is finally getting around to helping the track/xc teams.
As a former runner there, I can say that I'm proud of what Weber is doing to improve the program these days. They have plans for a new outdoor track to be completed for the 2010 outdoor SEC championships, which should also help recruiting. I truly believe that Weber and the quality staff will have the program in good shape within a few years.
Coach Weber is a quality coach and now that he's been given the resources, they are an up and coming program in the VERY competitive SEC.
