A lifetime opportunity, truly unforgetable experience - missed. Did they make the right choice? Or did they dig US distance running an even deeper hole?

The guys that went are certainly my new heroes. I thought it was amazing that a non african nation did not have one dnf in those brutal conditions. I will bet that everyone that went (even those that ran poorly) would do it again tomorrow. Wejo's report does a great job of explaining what they missed.
Beijing is going to be way more brutal than Athens was. Dr Randy Wilber who has done the studies on both Beijing and Athens claims that it will be every bit as hot in China with much greater humidity. This would have been a perfect opportunity for Olympians to see how their bodies respond to extreme conditions and then prepare accordingly. Instead we (or should I say they) took the easy way out. I hope that not one of those athletes that turned down this trip has anything negative to say about the conditions in China.

It's a moot point. One of them was seriously ill and one of them was injured. They wouldn't have run anyway.
Agreed, lets move on.
Whats the big deal...with dissing pro runners??
After KU screws up on lay-ups all night, were aloud to give them hell..
I say we do the same thing, when runners screw up....call them out..
god damn...i know... its allowed .
i suppose after the last post...yeah i should catch hell for that;
What about the parents of the Junior Girls that stole an opportunity from their daughters because of their own unsubstantiated fears? Many of us joked about the threat of a "NON VIOLENT" protest. I have talked with several athletes and not one ever felt threatened or in any danger in any way. Shame on you parents.
Yah I kind of wish I had went but I got this pneumonia so it was a moot point.
They talk the talk, but they don't walk the walk.
are you sure?

france had 2 and portugal had 2.
also, a lot of european countries didnt send teams to begin with.
Britain had 8 out of 8 finish. 6 in the top 90. They deserve some credit too.
Lol...French runners yeah right..
all french athletic teams should fall under the jurisdiction of the French Foreign Legion..
its like...run or go back to Morocco...
When did Portugal become part of Africa? And Japan? And Spain?
see my thread about UK domination of us! i think the us resurgence hit its peak in 2004. the new crop of us runners unlike meb and deana

Hahaha. Outside of Mo Farah, the NCAA could crap on Britain.
I think "That has gotta hurt" is talking exclusively about the United States when he/she says "non African nation" in the second post on this thread. I'm pretty sure the poster was not talking about all non African nations (as some non-African nations did indeed have DNFs).
Also, way to go Great Britain! Mo Farrah seems to have a great attitude, a solid work ethic, and a true love for the sport. Hopefully this bodes well for the future of UK distance running.
if they are so much better why didn't they go...small bollocks i'd say....uk is having a resurgence....
...and your best 10km runner dathan tries to run a measely 8km and gets hurt...
...watch out uk runners at worlds and oly they will be much better prepared than the us boulder or oregon training groups......

Who have you talked to? Did they tell you that security was so thick that they couldn't go anywhere without scrutiny from armed guards? Did they tell you about staying awake until 9:00am because they couldn't fall asleep at night? Tell us who you talked to?
