Jim Ryun ... learn to spell
If memory serves me correctly, in his prime, Jim Ryan was 6' 1" and weighed about 160 - 165 lb.
6' 2" ....160 lbs....very lean, in his prime. All bone and muscle, as I look at my framed picture of him (from the SI cover), of him hitting the finish of his first world record.
I read both of his books. They are great; I practically have them memorized.
Tall & thin.
To be exact, 6 foot, 2 3/4 inches and 170 in his prime. He may have been lighter and heavier at given times. Even at almost 60, he's still well over 6'1", probably about 190lbs these days.
what is your dad doing now that he's out of politics, at least for now? Speaking engagements, the track camp? Does he still have his interest in photography that he had as a young man? What are his plans?

Drew: Over the 5 years I tested Jim (1967-1972) his weight varied from 160 to 180, but mostly in the 160s (that 180 was at the end of the year he took off, and when in shape during those years, 166 was the highest I tested him at (but test days may not have always reflected average weight). When at his highest weight during those years he got to somewhere around 10-12% body fat. In 1972 his VO2max equaled the highest I ever recorded for him (in 1967), and his running economy in 1972 was better than either 1967 or 1968.

Those 1972 results are amazing.

I love all this trivia. What could have been in '72. If not for that fall there was a medal waiting of some color, though I suspect not gold. Too bad we'll never know.
