Steeple.
Spartacus.
Don't know who has or what the womens 1/2 marathon WR but I have to say; A Clockwork Orange.
I'd rather skip the first question. I mean, are we really going to consider things like the women's 2000-meter steeplechase?
I've never been a fan of Kubrick. I like movies with good dialogue and interesting characters, and the characters in Kubrick's movies usually seem too cartoonish to be interesting. In "2001," who remembers any character other than Hal the computer or the unnamed primates in the opening sequence? And the main characters in most of the other films, including "The Shining," "Clockwork Orange," and (obviously) "Dr. Strangelove," are just parodies of real people. "Lolita" and "Eyes Wide Shut" dealt with actual human emotion and feeling, so I'm somewhat more favorably disposed toward them, but they're far from perfect. The ending of "Eyes Wide Shut" is, in fact, shockingly amateurish. When I watch Kubrick's films, I wonder what kind of an inner life the guy had. His films seem soulless.
Honestly, though, I'd love to be able to appreciate his movies more, so if someone can provide a good explanation of his genius, I'd love to hear it.
Then watch Barry Lyndon, which is an absolutely gorgeous film. Worth seeing for the wonderful cinematography and great classical music alone, although the story is certainly interesting too.
I do agree that Kubrick's films are kind of a mixed bag, though. Some of them (e.g. 2001, The Shining) don't really do it for me. However, since you ask about his genius, I think this is part of it -- having made a ton of movies all utterly unalike but all loved, albeit by different groups of people.
2K steeple
A Clockwork Orange
men's marathon (honestly)
Dr. Strangelove
The first half of "Full Metal Jacket" is brutal and excellent.
This one:
1:17:25.6 Bernardo Segura MEX Bergen 07 05 94
Paths of Glory
The softest world record is probably the women's steeple, or at least, SECOND place on the all-time list is certainly very soft.
Best Kubrick films are Dr. Strangelove and Paths of Glory
Mens 400m
A.I.
I liked Slingblade.
I don't know of any world record that is soft.
Dr. Strangelove
Womens 25k
2001
W55 mile.
The Killing.
Women's 4 x 800 age 30-39 age group
Clockwork Orange
Damn! I really was thinking only about Olympic Events plus Half Marathon. How about that, folks? Now which one is softest?
Again, I say Women's Half.
I never saw Barry Lyndon. It's getting a major reconsideration these days, I think. At the time, many critics / fans thought it blew chunks.

Limiting choices to Oly events is not unreasonable, but why then add the half mary? Just because that was your choice? That's like saying pick the best Kubrick film, or Gone With the Wind. Stupid.
Oly events only, or open it up to everything.
women's steeple and dr. strangelove. just an amazing movie

The Half is pretty popular, as well as 3000m. I think those are the only events outside Olympics which can be added to "main events". Whatever.
