Does anyone know where I can donate some old running shoes to a good cause in NYC? It kills me to just drop them down the garbage shoot.

There are United Homeless Organization (UHO) tables located on streetcorners in a lot of spots in midtown Manhattan -- those are the guys with the big plastic water-cooler bottles for spare change. They are usually set up in the same spots every day
They take sneakers that are not too far gone -- bring a couple of pairs at a time in a paper or plastic bag --
You wanna know something? As long as New York City has enough money to start a high school specifically for queers, they've got enough money to put shoes on people's feet. Throw your damn shoes in the garbage and don't worry about.
By the way, does anyone know when they will start the high school for the fat people and geeks. I mean after all, aren't they still picked on too? Welcome back to the days of segregation. THAT IS HORSESHIT!
There is a positive side though. I think even the people that believe we should accomodate deviant lifestyles will realize this is over the line and normal, decent society will start pulling in the reins a little.
a good can come out of this if you enquire about organization that help athletes in the developing world. maybe one day you will be fortunate enough to see them winning the olympics and when he/she is been ask for a statement they will thank you and your organization. not to say that you are looking for the credit
I'd donate my shoes but all the hot chicks that come to the mansion are always taking my stuff to say they have a little piece of Evel.
I have donated some of my cool, white boots I wore back in the day doing my jumps. They've gone to charity auctions and the like and fetch a hefty sum. Did any of you guys buy them? How much did you pay?
New York City resident and runner Toby Tanser has an outfit at the listed Web site:
. I encountered it while helping Michael Sandrock with Boulder, CO's noted
, which has been around since 1985 or so. Coincidence, eh? The same greater good is achieved so it's all positive.
Toby maintains his own Web site, not sure whether it is
or
, and competes for the Central Park Track Club in Manhattan. He'll send your shoes to folks who can use them. But your term "old" is subjective. I'll wager you know that if the shoes are fried, rank, etc., toss them out. Toby's intent is for shoe recipients to log some miles in them, not just cover their feet.
It's that darned crack again. Dot-Org. Oh-Are-Gee. ORG! Sheesh.

I have been collecting the a bunch of shoes to do just that as well, figured I would get them to either Toby or get in touch with Mzungu again and get them off to him... If it makes it easier you can contact me and I will get them to one of these groups.
