anyone have any feedback on the PR (3.9oz) or new RC flats?
anyone have any feedback on the PR (3.9oz) or new RC flats?
the PR is sweet. very sweet.
New RC is nice, too, but a bit heavier than the previous model, half an ounce or so. biggest improvement is the elimination of the quickstrike stuff (blown rubber in its place) under the forefoot.
I have the adizero RC2's. The outsole is wearing off after about 150 miles. It's a good shoe otherwise (although a bit wide for me) but the durability is terrible. I guess you could say it's my fault for trying to train in a racing flat, but I think that even a racing shoe should hold up a lot better than these are.
I'm not a shoe neurotic, but does that new outsole make it any quieter? that's my only complaint w/ the older green RC. thanx
I'm a little confused as to which is the RC and which is the RC2. I just bought THESE ones from Eastbay:
http://www.eastbay.com/catalog/productZoom/sku--019452/supercat--home/cm--57831P/
As I understand it, these are the RC2's right? Because other places I have seen call them just the "RC"s and I don't know which is which. Can someone tell me (perhaps even show me a picture of the RCs vs the RC2s?)
Whatever they are, let me say that these shoes are great. I wore them last night for a workout and was very impressed with the feel. Super light and good but responsive cushioning in the forefoot. (Funny how many manufacturers make flats with super heel cushioning and no forefoot cushioning. If there was ever a time I'm not landing on my heels it's when I'm racing.)
And as for the outsole wearing off, let me suggest you do what I do with all my new flats. Buy some Shoe Goo and put a thin coating on the outsole (on the parts that you tend to wear down) when they're BRAND NEW. Run in them until the shoe good wears off and re-apply. You'll buy yourself a lot more miles in them. I do this for the flats that I train in (not the RCs) and I get as much as 1000 miles out of them when I used to get only 300.
This is a GREAT shoe. Extremely light, fits perfectly, awesome traction.
Hey Average Joe
The picture you posted is the latest SS2007 adiZERO RC. It's not RC2 since it's a completely new upper and bottom, the RC2 was developed for the FW2006 season and looks very different to the new version.
Shoe goo is a good option if you simply want to gt more miles or train on the Track but the RC (Racing) is a Japanese racing shoe, 5-10k races for lightweight efficient Asian Midfoot strikers (Asian runners are predominately midfoot strikers who shuffle more than heel strike). You should use LT (Light Training) or CS (Cushion) to train in if the RC is the the right shoe for you to race in.
Check out our US Website, you can find all the current SS2007 adiZERO shoes as well as many others.
Good luck
yes, it is quieter.
are you really an adidas development guy (or gal)?
If so, nice work on the new line of flats. Good stuff. However...
You guys really need to get to work on those high-end spikes. Here are two ideas:
1. Take styling cues from your sweet retro shoes (keep it simple, baby!)
2. If you're going to use a full length plate, make it as light and flexible as possible, and use that pebax stuff. No high end spike should ever weigh more than 5.0 ounces, not in this century.
And please get rid of all that GCS or For-motion or whatever the hell the decoupled heel thing is on all your specialty trainers. It encourages improper mechanics, and while slowing the rate of pronation sounds good, there's no evidence that is reduces maximum eversion or injuries.
there, i've said my peace.
Thanks for that. Can you tell me then, what THESE are?

Because Zappos is calling them Adizero RC2s as well yet they look like a third variety...
Questions for Adidas Development Guy:
1) What's the difference between the LT2 and the new LT? I love the LT2 and rotate it with the Brooks Burn 3 on longer runs.
2) What niche is the Adizero Pro supposed to fit into? Longer races than the PR or RC?
Thanks for responding. The adizero line is the best thing ever to happen to my running.
Yeah that's the RC2....it's called that because the very first one (named RC...strnagely enough) had that hard QS Quickstrike outsole that we also hated...so we changed it to the Japanese DSP outsole that it has in the pic, it has amazing grip but with that you naturally get wear (think car tyres) so it's better for racing when the whole FF is made with DSP, that shoe is a FW2006 shoe.
Yes, the adizero RCs are really a pair of great, no-bs, plain-ol' racing flats. Love training in them -- not too bulky uppers, single density fairly thin midsole. Ahh, perfect. Yes, noisy as hell though.
LT2 was part of the first range (season 2) and was sweet then but without the better materials and Technology we now use to create much more accurate cushioning compounds etc. So much more has been learned about different types of runner for different events and types of runners that these shoes have more accurate and specific components/materials etc to do the job they were meant to do. The LT is a little heavier but only a little, it's faster with better FF rebound and is more supportive. Simply...LT for this season is an all round much better shoe than the previous one...trust me I'm a doctor !
Regarding PRO, it does what it says on the box, it's an Elite athlete shoe, the African's, Moroccan's etc who are so much stronger than regular Joe's (sorry average Joe) don't need the cushioning, they only need rebound...that one has a High Rebound compound in the FF and a lighter Cushioning compound in the Heel...to keep the weight down and for standing on....at the beginning of the race !
Glad you like the shoes, we'll keep improving...SS2008 is already looking amazing and more new stuff coming in FW07...if you like fast trail we have the shoe for you in June !!!! Well better get on with it !!!!
Cheers
Store guy, yeah I'm here in PDX doing my thang and you must be just a little psychic with your all get up high end spikes pitch....we used to rule the world in Track and you know what's coming right ! That's all I'm going to say on that subject... for now !
I get your peace and embrace it.....Formotion is actually an amazing technology, it looks heavy in some forms sure(adiSTAR etc) but it does a great job of reducing the stress on the Knees/ankles during heel strike and the transition to the midfoot phase...honest we've tested it under every conceivable situation/weather/terrain known to man or beast.
That baby is like a shock absorber and a conveyor belt built in one, it really works and it's so obvious under high speed filming..come and take a look !
Unfortunately not everyone is blessed with good mechanics and lots of us need a little extra help...think of all the poor sods who get injured because their mechanics put their bodies under too much stress...Formotion is like acupuncture to those peeps but I hear ya, Peanut Butter and Jelly ain't for everyone either...know what I mean..and I'm not from the US either ?
good info... good to hear from r/d on where you're going...
Hey, glad to hear some people with some knoweledge on hear. I go to a school about 3 miles were you work (I think you know which one) and run in the ethiopian colored rc2s for a lot of training runs. I was wondering what the logic is of having the plastic things on the bottom and the carpet like stuff underneath. A couple of guys on the team wear test stuff all the time and I have seen the pros and they look sweet. I am really excited for the trail ones as the rc2s dont' hold up do well on the wildwood mud. Can you give us any more info on these trail flats?
Thanks a lot.
Hope your enjoying the RC's, you should check out the new colours of the latest RC/LT too.
The plastic stuff w/the carpet thing is only made by the Japanese and it's called DSP (abbreviation is Dual Stencil Process (how the outsole is made)), it is the highest level performance racing outsole available at present. Asics, Mizuno, Nike all use the same thing although the traction lugs are designed differently per brand. The base fabric is strictly for bonding with the lugs but it can take some nice graphics too through Sublimation printing...see ASCIS Sortie Magic !!
There is a fine line between the balance of a hard cleat that lasts a long time but is slippery and one that grips really well but wears down somewhat faster since it's softer....we try not to compromise on performance for this type of shoe, grip is paramount and therefore this type of outsole is usually for Light Training or races, depending on how economical/talented a runner you are...the 200lb guy who wants to get out and loose a little weight shouldn't go anywhere near Racing flats, especially skinny midsoles w/a DSP outsole and that should be common sense but the shoes are so cool, who am I to tell him otherwise....make sense ?
