Almost forgot......
Following a runner in a vehicle is not uncommon. Very famous and not so famous runners do it all the time for various reasons. Maybe this parent recognizes the need to follow their child. Apparently (after re-reading the story)the parent made a wise choice to follow the kids. your next post would have been how stupid she was for letting them run in the street (also very common).

I notice you didn't make any mention of consideration for other motorists, or how much of the road he/she was blocking. Driving well below the posted speed limit (without justification) is extremely dangerous. What if we all drove that way...out of some sense of priggish entitlement...how would that work? Wouldn't a bicycle have been more appropriate in this situation? Takes up less width of the road.
The difference is "pit bull" refers to a variety of mixed breed dogs, and has no breed standard, there for any combination of dogs can be bred, and as long as it resembles a pit bull, it is one. A Staffordshire terrier needs to conform to a specific set of specs: not so for a pit. This is why pits are nasty dogs, and totally unreliable as a breed
If it were possible to have an AKC registered pit bull, it would be called that. Its not an academic difference: pit bulls are not pure bred dogs, and that counts for a lot.
I'm not going to argue this point, since you came right out and said "AKC registered pit bull" and that is clearly not the case.

You're conflicting your story a bit pal. But you're right what i should have said was AKC registered American Staffordshire Terrior, which is commonly refered to as a Pit Bull. I'm really not just making this stuff up.
"As the breed moved to America the names Pitdog and Pitbull Terrier stuck. However, American breeders wanted an animal heavier than the British breed, hence the name American Staffordshire Terrier. This is the breed COMMONLY REFERED TO AS A PIT BULL."
The story was not about, road hazards in modern society. It was about a dog attempting to bite some kids. Get real! It sounds as if you never had nurturing as a child growing up and now you wish these kids were bitten. The dogs were on the road also...I noticed you never addressed that!
there is a lot of misinformation on this thread. i've never understood why people insist on continuing a rant about a subject they know nothing about when the google search engine awaits just above. anyway, for those of you who think that pitties are the devil incarnate, please research the history of the bull dog. the pitt story is similar, and pitts are no where near as vicious as the bullies used to be.
Why do you think the 95% (obviously I made the % up, but you get the point) who own pit bulls get that breed in the first place? Well, look at the owners... usually trashy, wanna be Billy Badasses who feel the need to own a tough dog. What does this lead to? Unresponsible breeding, which leads to even more poor qualities that can be found in a pit bull. Sure, there are responsible well-intended breeders who work with pit bulls. Unfortunately, there isn't a high demand from other well to do potential owners which inevitably leads to more pathetic owners of pit bulls.
The bottom line is, why risk owning a dog with such high POTENTIAL for disaster? Thankfully, a lot of cities are putting bans on such dogs. There is no point of having this type of dog for 95% of thugs who want them. They were not bred to be this fun loving, happy go lucky family dog that the neighborhood kids' parents can feel comfortable with.
from wikipedia:
"Pit bulls were originally bred to be both a family dog and to be used in (now illegal) dog fighting. Breeding programs in the U.S. in the 1920's emphasized breeding puppies for dominance and a high degree of gameness, as well as the loyalty and obedience that this group of dogs remains so famous for. These traits, along with others, made these dogs unique in that a handler could remove his dog from the ring during a dog fight without the risk of being harmed himself. Pit bulls were never trained to be aggressive toward their human owners.
There is a common belief that pit bulls were bred to be aggressive. This is not true. Pit bulls were bred for strength, tenacity and dominance in order to be successful in the ring. These traits can lead to aggression if not channeled properly. Pit bulls, like all dogs, are social pack animals.
The American Temperament Test Society, Inc. (ATTS) breed statistics as of December 2006 show an 84.1% passing rate for the American Pit Bull Terrier and the American Staffordshire Terrier and an 83.9% passing rate for the Staffordshire bull terrier, as compared to an 81.5% average pass rate for all dog breeds."
SO...the breed is aparently no more aggressive than any other breed. However, these dogs were clearly bred to perform the specific task of KICKING ASS. This task specific trait is referred to in the article as "gameness". According to this article the pitbull is no more likely to attack you than any other dog, yet its bred "gameness" trait will make sure that...in the event that a pitbull does attack you...you are completely and utterly screwed, due to the fantastic "gameness" trait that makes the dog ready to "game" your ass into hamburger. You are in its neighborhod, its ring, and now, your ass is his (the pitbull's):
"Gameness is valued as it gives the dog the ability to maintain the attack in baiting, despite ripped flesh, dehydration, exhaustion or broken bones. As one writer describes it, "Game is the dog that won't quit fighting, the dog that'll die in the ring, the dog that'll fight with two broken legs."[1]
HOW IS THIS NOT A DANGEROUS DOG?
It's all fun and games (owning a pitbull that is) until someone gets hurt.
Some insurance companies will not provide insurance for those owning pitbulls, rottweilers, and chows.
Has anyone ever had trouble with Dalmations?
I believe they are banned in some parts of Canada.
I've know a few Dalmation owners. They (the dog) tend to become psycho and overweight as they get older.
dalmatians are companion dogs. they are great as long as the owner is able to be with them all the time. they get crazy when they're left alone. they are usually very loyal to one person, highly energetic; they're one of the best dogs to run with....they can run fast a long time. most dalmatians don't like children (with a dalmatian, you have to earn its respect; most kids are just too suffocating).
dalmatians are likely to bite, not maim.
Relevant charts on pages 2-3.
I know you can't advertise selling pit bulls some major newspapers (Washington Post for sure).
DID HE EVER BITE YOU??
i think it is the owners who should be sewing you. you kicked their dog in the face several times for no reason. its is a dogs instint to bark and protect its property.
pitbull vs. porcupine
"Pit Bulls" are NOTORIOUSLY mis-understood. Most people ASSume that a certain dog is a Pit Bull when in reality they have no idea what a Pit Bull looks like.

Every time I hear one of these stories, I think that I should run with a loaded gun to shoot those devil beasts. I like dogs as pets, but you'd lock up a person that ran around biting people. If a dog randomly attacks a person, it should be shot in the face. It's dead carcass should be stuck up on the castle walls to warn all the other dogs what will happen if they transgress.
Soon, the dogs will understand who their true master is. They will either obey or be destroyed.
