Jon Thomas has run 14:10. He can, and WILL, run sub 29:00 at Stanford. Get over yourselves.
Alright, I don't want to pick on this Jon Thomas guy, but posts like this (and another one previous to it, talking about small schools following suit) are demonstrating that people don't get what's going on.
Jon Thomas may very well run sub 29, and I hope he does. A 14:10 indicates that he could come close to this.
The point is, I just checked, and he HASN'T run sub 29 YET.
Other athletes are being held to their PRs as their seed times (i.e. coaches MAY have tried to project what "Joe Scmoe" could run, but weren't allowed to fudge).
There are most likely candidates out there who are "ready" to break 29, but haven't got that as their PR yet. But if they don't come from a select school, they apparently can't project that onto their seed time. I've checked quite a few seeds, and there are some schools who definitely got stuck with their athletes being entered at their PRs.
This isn't that important if you're just getting seeded slightly higher in your heat so that you can start a little closer to the front, but it IS important if this Thomas guy is bumping a more deserving guy out of a faster heat.
Anyway, best of luck to all competitors, and I hope Jon Thomas runs sub 29. I also hope people realize what's going on, though.
AJ did run close to 4 flat indoors and Vin's guys have historically come through with performances very close to seed times so why not?
Historically??? Have you tracked Vin's seed times and compared them to his athletes? That seems wierd. I guess, unless, you work for him. Where do you access vin's seed times from 2002? I would like that info please.
Real times or made up times.....it will be a GREAT meet to watch!!
Any word who is running the Payton Jordan invite?
