THE ROAD TO BEIJING - UPDATE - 22/04/07
One week on from the frustrations of the Paris Marathon I have been able to put things back into perspective. I knew from the very start of this project that I would have all sorts of obstacles to overcome and I am viewing the difficulties of Paris as just another.
I went down to the watch all the runners today in the London Marathon. Apart from wishing I was running with them it gave me an interesting perspective in seeing the faces of people who I have shared the highs and lows of the last 15 months training, racing and competing with. Each runner has a story to tell, a time to hit and ambition to fulfil and it was great to have the opportunity to step back and cheer them all on.
I have spent a week trying to relax, not very successful, but have got to the point where I am desperate to get my running shoes back on and get out training again. I had been toying with the idea of running in the Prague Marathon in a few weeks just to get a good time but at the moment I am going no where due to the injury. I went for a jog earlier and although better and having consulted with my physio it might be another 2 weeks of rest combined with a number of strength exercises before I am able to get going again, all things considered the rest is no bad thing.
I also wanted to thank the amazing support that I have had from runners and non runners of all standards from past Olympic marathon runners to first timers wishing me the best of luck with the recovery and to not give up. It really is amazing and has given me a huge boost. This week I promise to write back to everyone. Well done again to those who ran London today. It looked like a great race and seeing you all taking part really moved me as I walk over the course thinking that next year I will be taking part.
