I have been listening to the 12 disk set about Santee, Landy and Bannister I checked out at the library. It's pretty good. I am on disk 7 now and it's talking about how a good race organizer set up Wes Santee to go for the sub 4 minute mile attempt at half time of the Pro Bowl.
It got me to think, wouldn't it be cool to have that as a tradition that at halftime of a big football game like the pro bowl they have a mile race set up for the halftime show? Okay, I know a lot of purists out there think there are enough track fans and such to have our own event, but I think it would get those out of the track and field world excited about distance running again and it may end up with some great races and times.
Imagine a mile race at half time of the Rose Bowl? That kind of energy could make for great racing. Santee did it halftime of the pro bowl at the coliseum. Were any of you there to witness this? Maybe you Ed W.?
