I'm quite regular in my squating. Once every morning and then I usually don't need to squat again until the next morning. But I never gain weight when squatting, in fact I always lose weight - and then I flush.

secrets to faster running??
i don't think what makes a lot of the east african kids amazing runners is their weight lifting
i could be wrong but i doubt that kenny b or gebrselassie or dathan ritzenhein are squating 475 regularly
how in the world did ritzenhein get in that group? jk
secrets to running faster?
Kenny and Geb do use leg weights. El G certainly uses them a lot. those are some of their "secrets"
i can't find the link to El G's weight lifting, so i'll look for it and post it later
of course they lift weights, i'm not arguing that at all... and I think i have seen some of their programs, all i was doubting was the amount of weight
say what?? wrote:

My wife weighed 118 lbs in high school and had a pr 5x475 (90 degrees at the knees, no need for parallel). The "weakest girls on the team weighed 88 lbs (4'11) and did 10x200...she was capable of more. That team rolled through the competition, especially on hils and late in the races.
that may be one of the most ridiculous statements i've ever read. the only way i possibly believe either of these claims is if you're talking quarter squats at most.
i kind of agree with you keystone light knight... i lifted a lot before i started running and while I don't remember specific numbers i don't think i was squatting 475 and I was a pretty big guy at one pointhave you lifted a lot? what angle are you coming at this from?

you are absolutely right, but people on this page don't have their gifts. My example was a very average girl who was able to beat a lot of far more talented athletes with hard work...a piece of which was weight room.

have you lifted a lot? what angle are you coming at this from?
well i have lifted for about 6 years, including 4 years as a college sprinter. about a year or so ago, when i was 21, i was 170 pounds at 5'8" and i had a one-rep max in the squat of 410. but that was a full squat - i don't know what i could quarter squat though because what is the point of that? also around the same time i deadlifted 510 (3x my bodyweight, which is pretty decent for a guy) so i have some frame of reference. i'm just saying, a high school girl weighing 118 squats over 4(!!)x bodyweight for 5 reps? or an 88 pound girl even being able to handle 200 pounds on her back? sounds a little crazy to me. also, these girls are supposedly competitive runners right, not powerlifters?
apparently not.
I went to high school with the goofiest looking white guy ever, about 5\'11\" and maybe 140 pounds. Not strong at all! But his 200 Pr was like 22:5 or so. So in regards to fast twitch muscle means a good squat i say you are full of shit.
I agree completely with you. I posted extensive info about distance people lifting and how important it is and how much it can help if done CORRECTLY. This guy came on and contradicted alot of stuff I said which is not a problem, it is a message board after all. Thing is my info has been gathered in reality everyday in the weightroom and from my coach, who learned from William J. Kraemer while he was at Ball State. Kreamer is to western science/reality based strength training what my "namesake" is to our sport. So either he is a revolutionary genius or wrong. And/or trying to sell his book.
BTW I am 5'11" 149-52 and back squat (legit) 270 just below parellel. I've now dropped that back to 250 and squat ass-to-calves, just putting my ass back and chest forward to I cannot go back anymore. It has already helped my running even in the cold. THe more depth you can get the more activation you can get out of your posterior chain. The more activation you can get under a almost maximum load the longer you can activate them submaximally, ie stamina.
No need to qualify that keystone. There is no possible way an high school girl that size could support 475 lb on her back, quarter squat or otherwise. miler_coach must be talking about leg press, in which case 5x475 is nothing special for a girl with above average natural strength and a 45' angle machine... Even among adult men it takes some serious long term dedication to squat 475 for 1 rep unless your a freak.
thank you....
i'm glad there is a little reality and reason on this board
