Smartwater Men's 800 Meter Run

What does everyone think. The kid is running very well. Granted there are some experienced guys in the field but Nick always seems to run smart and guys like Krumm and Peterson are not as impressive as they once were. Sam and Harris are solid runners too but I goota give the edge to the "Willamette Wonder"
His stocky build would seem to lend itself well to the 200m banked track. NS FTW.
Nick has very little indoor track experience. They didn't do it much at all at Willamette, I think he's probably in better shape than those guys, but on a tight 200m oval, he's not promised anything.

hasn't he ran 3:56 indoors already in the mile? seems like he does fine on 200m tracks.
ps i have him for the win kicking down krum in the final 150
1 more thing...krum should move to the mile/1500. a few 800s, but thats it, 2008 olympics in the 1500. he's run 3:31 already.

He ran his 3:56 at Dempsey at UW, where it's 307 meters and has long staight-a-ways. A lot different from running on a 200m track.
Using his 3:56 as a guide, I would think he is a "strength" 800 runner. If this is the case and someone like Peterson goes out strong, NS might struggle with the lactic acid if he tries to match pace. If he lays back, he has a lot of talented & experienced racers to get around. I feel he would have to get out in 2nd or 3rd yet relax and I'm not sure he has enough experience at this level to pull it off "yet". Regardless of his success here, I believe an 800, with this field and his early mile success, is a great choice for an emerging talent.

Yes, Nick would classify as strength. Most of his 800 wins at the D3 National meet were from off the lead going into the last lap. But his National record was the rabbit and then him.
1 good indoor race on a 307m track does not gaurantee success on a tight 200m oval.
Does anyone think that Symmonds maybe the best D3 athlete in the country?

No, I'd still have to give that one to Andrew Rock.
He will start off in the back(won't get into position) and then try and drop the hammer(w/200) and eat up a bunch of people at the end and it will be a little to late and he won't win.

Yes, I agree. Oh Hi has a very possible scenario. It is tough to get around experienced runners in an 800 indoor.
