It is an impressive list of guys showing up for the men's race. Who else "needs" to be there, to make this the most competitive U.S. field ever assembled?
The obvious start to this discussion is Webb. Who else?

Teg
Cabada
Meb
Webb
Lagat, KK
Meb is already on the list. Lagat and KK are decent additions, and would be interesting additions, as this race would seem to be out of their element.
rexing. of course, he wouldn't make it any more competitive.
My question is from this best race ever will it produce the best team ever? Meaning, will those who qualify run World XCs?
i doubt guys like hall and meb who are running spring marathons will run world xc. however, with the depth america has gathered of late, i think this could be up there as one of the best in a long time, if not ever.
Wow. Hall, Meb, Abdi, Culpepper, Goucher, Ritz and Torres all facing each other in a race for the first time at USATF cross this year.
Lessee...Hall just ran the half-marathon AR in 59:43, #9 all-time on non-aided courses, has the 20K AR to boot and is the defending national champ in practically a cakewalk last year. Meb has the 10,000 AR and is an Oly marathon silver medalist. Abdi's run 27:2x and 2:08. Culpepper has run 2:09 and multi national titles at cross and 10,000. Goucher's run 13:10 and multi national titles. Ritz has won World Jr. Cross bronze, run 27:35 and set the CR. Torres is the defending USATF 10,000 champ. All have signifigant international experience. A field so good that Ian Dobson (13:15) and Rohatinsky (NCAA cross champ) are practically afterthoughts.
The best U.S. field assembled since...when? Ever?
The guy that wins this thing is a stud among stallions.
My money is on Hall. Walked away from the field last year and has done nothing but get a ton better since.
It would be nice to Lagat, Teg and KK in the field; has KK ever run cross?
is teg running any xc this year? Or indoors?
I think the top 5 will be:
1. KK
2. Abdi
3. Lagat
4. Meb
5. Sharif Karie
This field is why it's easy to get excited about U.S. distance running again.
Great depth, and a rising tide lifts all boats. Competing against fiels like this domestically is the best thing that can happen to prepare guys to be serious competitors internationally.
And FWIW, on the other end of the spectrum, Millrose now as Lagat (3:26, Oly silver), Mottram (WC 5,000 bronze) and Webb, so even our milers are facing great competition here at home.
At some point, this level of competition on U.S. soil will yield great dividends internationally.
just thinking of some past champions who are still active: culpepper and browne. broe obviously would be a good addition but he's hurt.
I'd like to see Withrow in there based on how he ran last time he did this race.
Browne

This got me thinking, so I did some research and came up with the link below which has all the World results from '73 to '06. The US team from '83 wasn't too shabby, but I don't know enough to know if that was the best US team ever or not.
Can someone with more knowledge let us know which Previous US World XC team was the strongest?
