So I have a week off from college in March. One huge desire in my life is to complete an extended 70+ mile solo trek in a remote, awesome location. I have varying ideas of where to do this, but I'd like to see what people think.
Some parameters:
I want the weather to be relatively warm. Freezing at night is ok; I have more than enough mountaineering gear, but I'd like to be nice and comfortable in a t-shirt during the day. It's in March, so this crosses out Colorado, Sierras, Washington etc.
I want somewhat mountainous terrain. The steeper and crazier and high in altitude the better.
Not too enormously crowded either.
-Some ideas for the trip:
Hike somewhere in Socal; Joshua Tree, Death Valley etc.
Hike in South Utah at one of the parks; Escalante, Zion, or Canyonlands Natl. Park.
A friend mentioned hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Pichu. This sounded interesting; funny....I envision riding into the ancient city in the clouds on a llama while snorting glorious raw cocaine and having wild rainforest animals follow me.
It seems like there could be some epic trips in Mexico. High altitude, crazy trails, robbers and bandits. Awesome.
So what do you all think? Where would you go in my position. Remember, I'm in college, I can't spend more that 800-900 on this flight, so no one say Nepal or something.
