was wondering what had happened with this thread.
Canadian marathoning has sucked for the last 12-14 years end of story.
I feel pretty good having Mr. Ed Whitlock as the face of Canadian marathoning.

Ahhh, well there were those days when Canada could have been a factor.

stop bumping this god foresaken thread...
Hey...
I hope you are all safe and well, tonight...
This weather and the roads and stuff are pretty wacked out.. Pure ice tomorrow on the roads, I think...
Stay home, and post .... if your power comes on, as mine finally did...
So...
Name dropping ???
These are PIHRT names...should they be a secret???
(Prairie Inn Harriers Racing Team)
Everyone knows this group does not fit the "stereotype"
of what some of you think a running club is . Old News,
Very Old News, actually...
Many different Coaches, Sports, Primary Affiliations ..
All choosing to run for PIHRT at National Cross - why ?
Because the PIH Executive, and primarily Bob Reid, went
way out there (in many ways) to make these runners feel
welcome and wanted . Belonging 101 ... Take the Course..
I named the Kajaks several weeks ago on one or the other
Running Lines to win the Men's Team Race at Jericho...
They still might ..... will actually, if Hayden changes
his mind and throws it down... I hope he does...
However, nothing is etched in stone, and there is still
a race or so to be run...
I will see all of you there, I hope..
I don't want any of you to become a lame, stay-at-home,
poster... Show up or shut up - Just my opinion...
just about every thread concerning running in canada turns into a 'how great is the p.i.h. ?' thread courtesy of ronb and i love it. come on ronb lets have some more.
some bait: ronb why would the placement of the pacific athletics annual party bother you so much ? are you going to it ? :)
Okay....
I'm sure it's logistics or whatever...
I'm sure there are lots of good reasons, which we hear about
soon enough I predict...
But who else thinks the symbolism is very weird???
The Pacific Athletics Season-End Celebration is being held on Sunday, November 26th ---- 6 days before the National Cross Country Championships at Jericho on December 2nd...
I'm sure the great cross-country runners from Pacific Athletics
will stretch out their Season for another 6 days, but c'mon guys,
that is ridiculous...
The notion that a Track Club, that includes athletes supported by a National Distance Running Centre, would End Their Season
prior to the National Cross Country Championships, is "Alice in
Wonderland" stuff...
aw i didn't need any bait we posted together. thanks ronb for your continued adoration of the sport seriously.
The Prairie Inn Harriers Racing Team.
OKAY, that's what's up & running.

Okay
The Prairie Inn Harriers
The idea was conceived in late Summer of 1978 following a track 5000 m event where; 'Papa' Pendrell, 'Shooter' Hall, one or two others & your humble narrator, J.C. were doing a warmdown. J.C. was jogging along savouring how he had squeaked under 16 min. for the distance, 'Shooter' six sec. back, 'Papa' maybe had run under 18? or 17 1/2 min., not too bas a time for a masters runner. ......anyhow the discussion lead from how the race went, to how the hockey teams were doing, how much mileage was being done, how everyones' work week had gone, etc., etc., to the idea of a new club being formed...the Hash House Harriers. The idea was of a club which would be interested in races, marathons, road running, trails, and most of all emphasis on knocking back a few (or more) cold ones after any running event. What was more palatable to all was the idea that any runner of any ability could join, be he a 2:20 marathoner or be he a 4:30 marathoner, be he a road runner, x-c runner or a track runner. It just didn't matter .....What was then far out was that a borderline international class runner was interested in hopping on board...this gentleman would a year later pull off a 2:14 & change marathon granting him a spot on the 1980 Canadian Olympic team for the marathon...once again it wasn't any big whoop whether this former Vancouver based gentleman was a club member. Other club runners were equally welcome, all would be allowed to run for the PIHHH in any race (The club was later known as Prairie Inn Harrier club, the matter of sponsorship had been handled by that N. Saanich Inn, hence the antecedent).
Simply a group of Victoria hard running, hard training, road runners wanted to spread the concept of running but with much more of a laid back slant on things around Victoria. The hope was a more & more runners of every kind would be interested in joining. Members were free to choose what, where & how they wanted to run, who they wanted to run with or to run solo (there were some organised w-outs but one could choose yea or nay there)...always the emphasis was on fun, socializing & of course the beverages....more than likely drawn from the concept of the HHH club affiliations around the world 'drinkers with a running problem'
Sounds very non-judgemental? It so did to J. C.
Club mtg.s were first held at whoever's home was available or offered. These were pretty well informal affairs, discussing once again, how a recent race went, who ran what, mileage run, how the local & international hockey, rugby, basketball, football ('Shooter' had a handle on 95% of info, don't know about cricket tho':)?) teams were playing, etc., etc., to who wanted to run this upcoming marathon & how were plans to be discussed on how to get there.
Social psychologists, sociologists were right in their concept that in every group, each group member may be replaced by a different group member but the same initial group concept will last. Same with running clubs too?
May be deviating from this thread's question. Since the PIH matter was again brought up I thought it relevant to add to this thread in this manner.
Glad this thread wasn't deleted!

Hey....
It wasn't that way in the 80s....
And now that I'm back it will be good again...
Only in my club though...
The other clubs don't have a clue...
Hey....
We need Jeff Schiebler (spelling?) to move up and run! I hear he runs for a pro team in Japan and holds the Canadian record for 10 000m. '77 was the last time a Canadian won Boston.
The base shrunk, the interest shrunk. Whereas 2:16 was once run of the mill, it is now #1. Other sports, computer games, idleness, horrible food, etc took over. Gratification Now does not work well in the world of Marathoning. And our governing body is useless. No wonder we stink.
Questions?
Is Bruce Raymer a marathon hope?
Raymer's dependable for a 2:22-2:23 on a yearly basis (ran 2:23 this year).
Schiebler comment seems like obvious baiting, but I'll rise to it anyway. Jeff ran one marathon, a somewhat disappointing 2:14 (I think), blowing up over the last bit. He's now firmly retired. I'm sure someone else will gleefully post recent race results, but I don't want to be that guy.
