The quality is phenomenal. Who knows how good the coverage will be once the race starts.
Just listening to the BS announcing on the short video clip provided by letsrun makes me glad I didn't endure it. Without the sound is best! :)
Yah basically. One of the guys I'm not sure which was just inane and every bit as bad as Rawson and Switzer was incredibly pompous.
Anyone know if there are top 50 results out to look at.
NO DEEP RESULTS?!? THE TIMING SUCKS AT CHICAGO.
I know. That's one of those irritating things about how the marathon has changed lately. Now when you look for the results of a race, it's automatically assumed that you're looking for the "searchable results" section that may or may not even include the place where a person finished.

I agree with ttc. The concept it not hard to understand. If you prepare under the same training plan it would make sense to heed the performances of your teammates which go before you. This can have positive or negative effects on confidence.
No questions please... reread my post until it sinks in.
What do you think Ritz should do then? Just bag NYC because he sees that a runner on a lower level than him, but on a similar training plan ran crappy?
"Oh Ed ran crappy, guess that means I'll run crappy too." Who would really even think like that?

I think ttc is right in some GENERAL sense. However, I personally don't think it applies to Ritz and Torres. So I see where he's coming from, but don't think he's right in this situation.
I can deal with that reply too.

Well I was with a coach who sucked but it wasn't my teammates performing poorly that made me lose confidence and quit/fire the coach.
My whole point wasn't that Ritz lost confidence or that he should bag the race. I only said "wonder what Ritz is thinking?" as a representation for my thinking. Sorry for the misunderstanding, but likely no pro would lose confidence by a training partner having an off race. And yea, I can see why people would've been bashing me for thinking that way and also understand why Malmo posed his question to me.
But my whole point was/is that Ed Torres dying off badly in his race could be an indication for Ritz' NYC debut, since they trained the same way. Remember that Hudson's training his first marathoners. Hartmann did decent for himself, but was said to be in heavy fade himself. Being a novice coach at this distance, it's a feasible question on whether he coached enough strength for 26.2. Coaches learn by mistakes. Ritz won't lose confidence, but I wouldn't blame him if he raised an eyebrow after Ed's crash.
ttc,
Hudson is not a novice coach at this distance.

I agree while it's great for a runner or friends/family to find out Bubbala's time the fan of the event is left high and dry. You can not expand the sport with out fans and uninformed fans soon say.............. GOOOOOAL!!
No, Hudson's NOT training his first marathoners, even if you don't want to count Hudson himself. You really should get the facts straight before you form opinions that you go around posting publicly, you wouldn't look so bad. I mean that sincerely. Hudson has coached Clint Wells, Justin Young, Scott Larson, and Molly Austin in the marathon previously. Chris Siemers and others might also be in there, but I'm not 100% certain on that point. There's no good reason for Ritz to give Ed's crash more than a passing thought.

Dang, didn't know. Even so, I stand by what I said. I'm also not speaking of Ritz' state of mind, but instead the results of his training. If Ed couldn't sustain off of it and crashed, then it's a possible indicator for Ritz, since he did the exact same training. I'm not arguing that Ritz lost confidence. In fact, I'd say the same thing if Ritz was blind to Ed's race: That the same training could give him the same problems.
Far as looking bad, the other guys are the ones hurling the insults. That looks more dystat than anything else.
Oh ok. For Ritz the hay's in the barn and there's not any point to worrying about the training. Seeing how Hartmann did pretty much puts to rest any concerns about the training. Hartmann's troubles seemed to come from going out too fast but he was still able to gut it out decently well. Ed could have done 1000 things wrong between when he started his taper and the starting line that had nothing at all to do with training but could have thrown off his race like that. Was he spending a lot of time with family and friends and eating and drinking stuff he maybe shouldn't have before the race? Was he battling a bug he picked up on the flight or from a family member or a friend? Etc. To suggest that it's gotta be something in the training to the exclusion to any other possibility with no other evidence is silly.
Didn't every single one of these athletes leave him?

Maybe so.
Yeah I think so. They're not on the site for his current group from what I see.

The chicago website is a joke.
Abdi ran 2:08 with a full spring/summer track season. AS well as a half marathon and more.
Seems like Sell just tries to cherry pick 2-3 races a year and goes for the times. Shows how good Abdi really is.
Abdi ran 2:08 off of a track season is great. Probably could have run a minute faster had he made 2:07 the goal.

Ed Torres and Jason Hartmann are going to be answers to trivia questions before you know it, if they're not already. Ritzenhein is smart enough to realize nothing can be predicated from a couple of C list guys. You need to smarten up too, ttc. It's a dumb premise you're throwing out there.
They would be big time A list guys if they were running for the Hansons. Sub 2:12 would be automatic with that talent.
