I love Sean! He said he would date me!
A couple of thoughts on various topics on this thread:
1.) I think just about anybody would pick Pixler to beat Spence or Dell in the mile. Not sure why anybody would interpret this as a slap in the face to either Spence or Dell...that's crazy.
Pixler was the outdoor 1500m champ in 2007 running 4:22.
She's been running great all indoor season. She just broke the GNAC conference record in the 5k, running 16:12. In the UW Indoor Preview on Jan. 17. Pixler finished third in the 3K in 9:23, losing only to two OLYMPIANS -- Kara Goucher and Amy Yoder-Begley.
2.) The entire Coach White vs. Coach Fry vs. Coach Spickler vs. Doc thing is getting very old.
There is an awesome event being planned to honor Coach Fry & Doc Raemore in June.
http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/event.php?eid=50112312972
I'm sure Spickler will be there, and I'm guessing he'll have a lot of us buying him a beer as well. And, personally, I'd LOVE to see Coach Fry still coaching the alumni at the XC alumni race each year. But, seriously, it's time to move on. The IUP program has fallen to a very middle-of-the-pack program (particularly in cross) and that needs to change..which will require support for whoever is the coach.
3.) Strauman...a word of (unsolicited) advice. The improvements you made over a 4-year period coupled with your hard work made the "ending" (an outdooor national championship) incredibly sweet. I still love watching that race on YouTube. Everybody on this thread knows you're a national champion...no need to remind them/us, so feel free to take pride in what you accomplished, but please -- act like a champion and role model for the future Indians who strive to be National champs as well.

whats wrong with this whole situation is that people are pointing fingers and trying to put blame on someone else.
As a former runner for iup, I can see a turning point for the team... and it is a turning point downwards.
The separation of people who should be training together is completely stupid. This is more than likely an attempt by White to say "look at my group of distance runners, and look at coach fry's" at the end of the season... We'll see how that goes.
From what I can see, either way, White's new coaching strategy has lowered the morale on half of the athletes on the team. There is an obvious separation between the previous runners under Fry Spickler and Doc and the new athletes brought in under White. It seems to have turned athletes who would have wanted to finish their final track season strong into ones who just not care... Way to go coach!
so how about we put aside all the other stuff about who brought who in and who is taking credit for whatever and get pumped for conferences which is in two weeks! So lets throw some predictions. I'm more distance oriented so I'll go from the mile up and do the dmrs.

Hilton
Weiss
Beegle/Neyhart
I feel Hilton will be stronger and edge out Weiss. Now don't get me wrong, Weiss is fast, but I personally don't think he has that extra kick that a miler has. And I don't know what's going on with Neyhart, if he manages to get it together I can see him going for 2nd or 3rd with Beegle and Weiss. Should be good if everyone is 110% that day.
3k
Weiss
Beegle
Brady/Johnson
Like always this will be the race to test who is the best doubler. I favor Weiss just because he can easily run 8:20s with a double. Beegle is also a good doubler. Then that leaves 3rd open for the haven/ship pack.
5k
Beegle
Getz/Brady
Johnson/Stetler
I am still not fully sure with how the 5k will play out. I see Getz and Johnson signed up for the Boston 5k and so is Brady at Bucknell. ALl in all it will probably be a dog fight for second with Beegle clearly taking it away.
DMR
Haven
Ship
Rock
Haven has the edge and i think they will take it.
Ok, that is all I have. Now lets see some others!
Shut up Tommy Pearson. You suck! haha
I second that.
Weiss- 4:09.33
Jenn Harp- 16:39 which is a DI Prov
Erin Richards- 16:48
The 2 SRU 800 guys- 154
all these marks at Akron's over sized speed oval.
LHU ran 9:57 at BU yesterday splits were reported as 304, 48, 154, and 409.
more results to come later.
since I am a computer guru I see Strauman posts under several different names, or several people are posting from his computer. What he has againist the new coach I am not sure but I see a lot of progress with the new guy. The IUP stuff is getting old and surely IUP was in need of a change. Strauman your are making yourself look bad. Just shut up and move on.
I see how it is going now as IUP does not have a single perosn qualified in the distance races due to there poor training. Also, I spoke to Nafee and no one at IUP track recruited him or Westbook. They came without being recruited by Spickler, Fry, or Raymore. Actually Westbrook almost did not come to IUP due to the lack of interest in him by track and the poor program. Westbrook came for football. Harris has improved big time and both are now eligible which was never the case with the other coaches. The new staff will soon have there own team and it will be one of the best in conference because they will not have the bad attitudes. The team is already improvved.
Raymore is a grown man and needs to stay off of this site. He left on his own so should grow up and wish the new coahces well instead of always being negative.[quote]I used to run wrote:

What I'm trying to say is that I'm sick of people cutting White down, just because he is an asshole...
He isn't here to be his athletes best friends, He is here to make us winners. And it seems that just because he is doing that, and with the bad taste that was left because everyone loved spick, people are hating
It is early in the morning and we got back from a poor meet at Bucknell and I have to go study. I just want to tell those who read this that not all the guys and very few of the girls loved spick. I hated the f------. Last year after he quit he came to practice and set his ass in the bleachers and criticized what we were doing with Coach White. He and Doc tried their best to turn everyone against White. Both were just negative people always complaining about the administration but did nothing to make ourselves better. No fundraising or community service just negative stuff all the time. I learned more from Coach White in the first week than I did my entire time under Spick and Doc. Coach White really knows his stuff and is demanding. Our team used to be so disorganized and undisciplined but now we are becoming a real team except for the distance runners. Coach White does not go to bars with the team like Spickler did and he does not try to be our best friend. He does go to classes to check that we are attending but no bars. The track team had a higher GPA than the XC team. Where else does that happen? To bad some of the distace runners will not buy in because if they would just listen they would be so much better. Before our team was like a club as we came and went when we pleased. Now we have real organized practices daily and you must be there. I am excited as we are getting better every week. Stop the hate as it is only effecting the ones who write it. Instead distance guys, try running faster than you did it high school. Your comments are only hurting you as our coaches could not care less about what you said only about how you perform.
The women's 5k at Akron was dominated by PSAC runners. Harpp won with a phenomental time of 16:39 beating Richards on the last lap who was second in 16:48. Lanzel and Li of Edinboro was 4th and 6th @17:15 and 17:26. Wright made 5 of the top 7 from conference as she placed 7th only two seconds back.
This should be a great race in two weeks and probably deeper and stronger than the mens.
Lock Haven had a large day at BU
Hilton- 412, 156 the day after a 409 anchor of DMR
Pomerantz- 417, 158
Zondlo?-8:35
4 guys sub 50- in the 400
some random guy- 21.91
4x400- 3:14!!!
Aj Johnson- 14:57
Getz- 14:50
Yeates- 15:18
solid stuff.
Man, those are for real. I know the Boston track is super fast but that is still outstanding. Congratulations to LH.
How is the team organized now? Half the team didn't even know they were competing this past weekend until Friday. And as far as IUP being a better team???? No. Sorry. Like I have said before, if they finish the year ranked higher in the nation than 15th, then I will say yes.
And the distance program is weakened now because White kicked Shelly off the team. Instead of Nate going back and begging for his spot, he said piss off and seems to be enjoying life a lot more! And the sprinters could make up some points too. How many guys do we have under 50 second in the quarter?
I am not afraid to put my name by anything that I write. So you can think you are a computer guru, but you might not be as knowledgeable as you believe you are.
Secondly, I don't care about the IUP T&F team. I'm not on it anymore. I have my reasons why I disagree with Coach White. I do not need to go on and on about it. I haven't shown up to a single IUP practice since my eligiblity ended, and I don't put any effort into helping the program.
Spickler didn't recruit. White does recruit. They have two different coaching styles. I can complain all I want but my time on the team is done, and White is still going to be the head coach. For anyone here at IUP knows, ripping on coach White isn't an everyday thing. We do have other things going on in our lives that we talk about.
And I've said this from the beginning, I don't care what people think of me. I did things my way and was very successful at it. Not just in track. I can't impress everyone and make everyone happy, so don't expect me to give a crap when people try to trash talk me. My life will go on whether you respect me or not. I don't care. Track was one hell of a good time for me. Now I'm done. End of story. You either like me or you don't, and that's it.
Ok, ok, I am tired of all of this animosity. I'm just going to come out and say what needs to be said.
As an insider stuck in the middle of this battle at IUP, I am fed up with all the things that are going on as of right now. Of course this season is going to be turbulent. All of the older kids on the team, and especially the distance runners, are having to adapt to a new coach and a new coaching style. Of course there is going to be some resistance to the change, but there is no need for any of this. I admit, at first I was a bit hesitant, but since I am a sophomore, I learned to accept it, and I am now embracing the opportunity to be a part of a nice young team that is going in the right direction.
There is one main reason the distance runners seem to be the "troubled" group on this team. It seems to us as if Coach White was not very nice with the way he handled the Coach Fry situation. As far as we know, it sounds as if he tried to force out a great coach who has put in 45 years of his life to this program. We realized that Coach White wanted to put his own coaches in place, which was fine, but we just all believed that Coach Fry deserved to go out on his own right, just because he had done so much for the program.
Whoever 'not a spick fan' is, you need to get your facts straight. I'm pretty sure that as of right now, two of the three distance/mid-distance runners who have qualified for PSACs are upper-class men who are running with Coach Fry, and I am one of them. Concerning the grades, the track team may have had higher grades than the XC team, but it's not like the XC team was slouching. I know for a fact that at least on the guys side, there were only 2 people on our team below a 3.0, which means that the cumulative QPA of our team had to be at least that(which means it's not like we're failing..). Good for the track team. But don't cut down on the XC team, as they are part of that team now too.
And I am absolutely insulted that you would say "run faster than you did in high school". I am running SIGNIFICANTLY faster than I did in high school, and I am beating a lot of kids who used to hand me my ass. While this may not be the case for most of the team, you can't make generalities like that without knowing the facts.
I'm done with this now. I don't care about any of this drama, and now you all have seen the view from the inside. I'm just going to focus on my training and schoolwork and do my best to be the most well-rounded student-athlete I can be.
My name is Steven Wainwright, and I'm an 800 runner. See you all at PSACs!
And please, everyone arguing about this...drop it. LetsRun is not a place to settle in-team issues, and I'm pretty sure nobody else on here cares to read about what we have to say.
Congrats to all the big performances this weekend- to the LH guys at BU, and to the IUP and Slippery Rock teams at Akron. Should be a great weekend at PSACs packed full of awesome races. I can't wait!
