I guess NCAA cross country champions make good marathoners.
Talbi too + Young 2:05.

A chalk top 3 of Mantz, Hicks and Talbi is taking shape. Even taking out the wind and downhills etc. Hicks now looks like a guy who can join the others with a sub-2:06 on a record eligible course in the fall.
Very different shoes
This result is closer to the 2020 The Marathon Project than to Chicago, Berlin, or London. We should want to see them repeat this first before crowning any of them.
He's British...but 2:04:35 is insane
I know he's transferred to the US, but does this still make him the fastest Brit ever? Farah's record (in a record-eligible course) is 2:05

Pretty sure he's an American Citizen as is Talbi
Sad to see Hicks not get that time in a GB vest, but a great gain for the US. I honestly didn't expect it.
Placement is the measure of the marathon. Courses and weather drastically affect times. Talbi 5th, Hicks 7th. Women 5, 8, 9, 10. Fairly normal placement for top Americans, nod to more women in the top 10.
His heart rate on the Strava for Boston is 114 average. wtf lmao. Clearly the watch he’s using is just way inaccurate right? It’s impossible to be running zone 1 at this pace for this race. 4:45 miles cannot be 114 hr. like laughably impossible

Charlie’s GB birth is an accident of history. He is the most WASP-y American marathoner ever.
Not that it maters in 2026, but where does this result fit with “all-conditions” Caucasian results? Remember, he ran essentially the same course as Hall/Rodgers/Salazar/Beardsley.
Also, he was wearing the Nike OTC (Oregon Track Club) Colors. Is Nike changing up its Elite team branding?
Gatlin ran 9.45 for 100 meters with a massive artificial wind at his back. A 10mph wind over 26.2 miles definitely creates an advantage. Yes, everyone is getting faster and the psychological barriers are falling……but seriously, let’s get real! Those Americans (New & Half) on an eligible flat course, they’re all at best 2:06ish - 2:07ish guys and you damn well know it. Years ago, Hall’s race was amazing, but he even admitted that he had a little help from ‘Mother Nature’. Combine that with the bouncy shoe factor, and “SHAZAM!” Everybody’s suddenly Kipchoge and Kiptum. Now, if all those guys run nearly as fast on another flat eligible course, without a crazy wind at their backs, then I’ll pack-in the skepticism.

I believe this year every Nike 'group' has a different colour kit, but the base design is the same (the speckled paint design sort of thing)
OTC I guess is green/black, Cooper Teare/Cole Hocker's group is blue/yellow.
As an Aussie I am hoping they do this kit in the Cathy Freeman colours like last year for our athletes

What’s going on???

Is he on OTC? I thought that group no longer existed lol..I thought he’s just a Nike athlete and they are doing the “swoosh” hubs now. Or if he’s still bowerman, then why he is seemingly in an OTC looking singlet - the tree logo is really interesting. Just a coincidence it looks like how OTC elite used to brand?
He is coached by Jerry “I never heard of nandrolone” Schumacher
Ka-chow! Ka-chow!
