I don't think anyone's denying he was a socialist.There are many conspiracy minded left-wingers about.
There's also a lot of disillusioned young people. It's about which party can explain the disillusionment and offer solutions. If the problems are not solved, people get seduced by extremes and seek out more wacky explanations for their situation.

If you're dead set on 'owning the libs' that's your prerogative. But I'm not sure what "He was yours" means... My what, exactly?
My takeaway is that this person was clearly deranged and unstable. I don't think he represents any political party and his beliefs and conspiracy theories were held by him alone - not really attached to any group or belief system.
He could have his picture taken with the Pope but that wouldn't have made him a Catholic.
