Interesting. A friend of mine from way back was captain of football team, fastest 100m sprinter on the track team in HS. Built like a brick sh!thouse. He went on to become a surgeon, then specialize as cardiothoracic surgeon in the military, helping improve lives and serving our country for over twenty years. Then Long Covid dealt a crushing blow. He has recovered but in all the struggles was forced to go the route of early retirement.
Matt Fitzgerald has been writing a blog ("Dying to Run") about his experience with long COVID. It sounds like a horrific and demoralizing illness.
Thanks for the info, I found the blog. It's informative and a good read. He paints quite the imagery. Reminds me a bit of the stoics Epictetus and Marcus Aurelius attitudes towards life. Despite all it's hardships - Amor Fati - love thy fate.
Matt Fitzgerald has been a runner for almost his entire life, but his running days ended abruptly in 2020 when he developed long COVID, a post-viral chronic
There are clinics in some cities that help Long Covid patients. If you're in NYC or vicinity you may want to check out Center for Post-COVID Care. Link below for those interested. Some excerpts:
It was initially thought that patients with COVID-19 fell into two groups: those who experience severe symptoms and require hospitalization; and those who have mild flu-like symptoms and recover within a couple of weeks. We now know that there is an important third group: people who begin to recover from COVID-19 but continue to experience heart issues, shortness of breath, fatigue, or cognitive difficulties—often for weeks or months.
COVID-19 affects every patient differently, so your treatment needs to be personalized to you. While the long-term effects of the virus are not clear yet, we do know that it can affect many different systems within the body, from the lungs to the heart to the kidneys.
Because post-COVID symptoms are such a new phenomenon, many patients find that friends, family, and even some physicians dismiss what they are experiencing. This can cause anxiety and depression on top of the physical burden. We know, however, that there are enormous numbers of patients who are presenting with these symptoms.

I think I could be dealing w/ some sort of long covid. Was probably in the best shape of my life and then things just went downhill. High HR every run. Attempted one light fartlek and HR was 190 right away. It felt like I had lost all fitness without taking any break from running. Still feel that way and it's been ~6-7 months.
Right before that I was slightly sick, never got covid tested though. Just feel like I connected these dots myself for a poor self-diagnosis.
I'm double vaxxed bc I know that matters for a lot of people on this board.

That sucks. Too bad you became another guinea pig for big pharma evil/greed. They created the virus and the "cure" for agenda and profit. Reprehensible stuff, really. Hope you can have adequate health goung forward despite those unfortunate happenings.

Sorry to hear that.
Since you never had a bad case of Covid, it’s most likely long vax. Hope it gets better, but it is affecting a growing number of people.
