This perverse coverage of wheelchair athletes is another example of DEI run amok.
Hey. You are so fierce on the keyboard. OMG. Amazing.
Hope you never end up in a wheelchair......
I don't get the disdain for the wheelchair racers on here & by the brojos/gault (LRC tweeted angrily about the wheelchair men's race winner being interviewed). You could, you know, choose to cover it, give us a preview, recap the races. We're here because we can watch someone run for 2+ hours. Wheelchair racing is similar to running/cycling. &, on top of that, coverage of the wheelchair races wasn't even close to the problem with the coverage!! The whole broadcast is designed to appeal to the masses. Marathoning is the only sport like this. They cut away from the elite races for every puff piece they could think of airing. They talked about how far 26.2 miles is & how they hate driving that far. They gave us interview after interview with people we've never heard of promoting something that we couldn't care less about. Why knock the wheelchair racers when the issue is that the entire coverage is not meant for actual fans? Imagine putting on the Tour de France & them cutting away from Pogačar at every chance they get? It doesn't happen, even though their broadcasts are much longer. Their sport highlights their professional racers. Marathon coverage on NBC Sports versus ESPN is completely different. That's the issue. We should be demanding the former -- instead of getting mad at wheelchair racers.
