One of my older cousins approached me at a family gathering asking to help her train for a half marathon. I was happy to accept but was also surprised considering she is a known crack user.
Her first “training” session was quite the experience I have to say. She had been running for a bit so I had her do a workout to see where she’s at, 3 x 1 mile repeats.
She shows up stinking of an odor that was new to me, but had the smell of smoke accompanying it. I gave her the benefit of the doubt and didn’t jump to conclusions. Before I could get her to warm up she goes to the start and just starts popping off her first repeat. I started the clock a little late because I wasn’t expecting her to start so soon but I clocked her at a 7:20. Impressive from being fairly new but also she was completely flailing at the end and ended up running the next two repeats at 8:45 and 9:22. It was clear to me she had just raced that first interval and it brought my mind back to the odor I smelled when she got there.
To save you all the reading, I believe she was high on crack when she showed up and now I am very confused on how to train her and if she will even last to the race. Is there a way I can “harness” her crack energy in training and help her? I’m honestly just very confused and astonished at the same time. Anyone have experience with this?
