The left has always been a collection of disparate groups that don’t have anything in common. As if Black and Hispanic men share the same values as white liberal women. It’s just starting to fall apart now.
Yes and it's not so surprising. He's right too, while being a little left leaning NPR was a place where you could get the actual news in an unbiased way. But even they have become tainted and corrupted by politics. It is a shame because I don't think there is really any real journalism left in America.
I know what you're getting at, but this isn't a case of a progressive Jew pushing every left-wing cause until one day it comes around and threatens Israel and they're left wondering how they can go back to their old left wing progressive movement that's exactly the same minus the anti-zionism (many such cases). On the contrary, he wrote a tour de force of everything wrong with NPR.

To be fair, cable, and the Internet have changed the media landscape. The days of everyone watching the 6 o’clock news on the major networks are over. It’s about niche markets. MSNBC caters to theirs. FOX to theirs.
What is notable about the article is the parade of facts and reasoning, things you will never otherwise find in a conservative outlet. NPR has gone downhill with its rigid and annoying adoption of new language rules, unhoused instead of homeless, Latinx instead of Latino, etc. Nevertheless, they still provide far, far better news coverage than the right wing organs, which are 100% propaganda. At the same time, NPR's description of the bill as 'don't say gay' and its identification of the bill with DeSatan is pretty accurate, as the bill originally, until a recent court agreement, barred teachers from referring to their own partners only if they were gay and while he originally attributed the bill entirely to the legislature and spoke of the bill as appropriately banning sexual instruction (referring only to trans- talk) in K-3, his own appointed education commissioner, Manny Diaz, extended the law all the way to k-12.

Well that's exactly why it's such a shame. An outlet like NPR is somewhat necessary in a world of corporate news and biased agenda.
Man, the guy gets reflective and self-awarely seeks a change for the better.
What a loser. Liberals are the absolute worst.
Everyone knows the only way to roll is to look at the political landscape, feel contempt for all the self-serving liars, and decide that Trump is the answer.
I have been listening to NPR sing the mid 80s. This guy's critique of NPR is just a cut and paste from Glenn Greenwald's twitter feed. I also suspect there might be some "you mad bro" in here over big anchor spots going to women of color recently amid acrimony over pay gap between white hosts and women of color that lead to some big departures two years ago. Otherwise, it is a lazy "look at me" piece that offers no real insight.
NPR used to be much, much more liberal than it is today. Susan Stamberg, Nina Totenberg and Linda Wertheimer lead a news room that was surprisingly out in front on issues like the US involvement with central and south American dictators and their death squads and were a big counterbalance to a network news establishment that was very reticent to get too deep into the sins of US foreign policy under Reagan and HW Bush.
Over the years, NPR has moved decidedly to the center as concerns over Republican attempts to pull funding for public broadcasting made NPR gun shy for hard hitting journalism. Since then, NPR has been rightfully criticized for being too deferential to Pentagon sources and prioritizing access over journalism.
The shift in NPR's listeners has nothing to do with the programing. The listeners and the media landscape have changed. Conservatives have moved hard to the right with Trump taking over the party. And social media, and a slew of new right wing media outlets (Newsmaxx, Daily Caller, etc.) have captured right wing news and commentary consumers.
So, the article just ends up following lock step in what Greenwald has been saying about MSNBC. It is not really a claim that these news outlets are too liberal. It is a claim that these news outlets are too captive to the DNC corporate elites. Stories about Hunter Biden's laptop and Russiagate are not signs of a leftwing progressive takeover at NPR. To the contrary, it shows that NPR is married to the DNC corporate elites, much like MSNBC is. In fact, NPR's coverage of progressive issues like Medicare for All, Green new deal, etc. is pretty snotty and dismissive of progressive views.
I’m offering three examples of widely followed stories where I believe we faltered.
That's one way of putting it. Another is to say you only reported narratives and facts which supported your political tribe and hurt your political opponents, which some might also call spreading propaganda.

Ah of course, he's just a racist misogynist. What an original take.
NPR has gone socially far to the left and politically become an organ of the Democratic Party, which means that it will do anything to defend Biden or whoever is the current Democratic standard-bearer, but that it will therefore also close out more radical economic and class critiques of the Democrats. It is a moneyed class that donates to NPR and it wants no real rocking of the boat when it comes to transformational ideas of our class-based society. So, it is a loyal lapdog in many ways, more left on the social, relatively middle of the road on much that is economic, sure, a bit of raising taxes on the wealthy but nothing that would cost it either money in Congress or money from the major donors of the pledge drives. You hear the difference if you listen to one of the more community public radio stations where their politics are far to the left of NPR and the voices are much more diverse even where they are not airing Republicans.

Yes, and as was the example I provided leading up to the 2016 election it was like being plugged into Hilary's campaign every time I I tuned in. Oh and how can anyone forget the coverage of Bernie during the primaries every time they uttered his name they were not hiding how much they didn't want anyone to vote for him.

Nah, NPR lost its dissenting opinions years ago, but far left they are not. Also NPR is far more accurate than right wing media, who almost always argue from a false position to begin with.
NPRs cringiest segments
Why Kenyan runners are so dominant. NPR guest eluded to pain threshold from tuff upbringing 😂
”Driving while white” callers would report (some of them crying) how they were pulled over by cops, but not ticketed
The NYC Board of Education is failing students who north of 116th street in Manhattan, compared to public schools in lower Manhattan. This is because of the disparity in test scores, attendance and disciplinary actions. NPR, never once mentioned the families (or lack there of) education, wealth, etc
I've been referring to NPR as 'state media' for years. 9 out of 10 people never pick up on it and the 1 of 10 that do always get that narrow browed, angry NPC look on their faces.
