Trying to learn how to write my own training and I'm unsure how many miles/week I should do at 5k pace in order to optimally train for the event. I come at it from a strength background (respond well to threshold, fartleks, etc). Currently doing ~60 mpw with one threshold interval session totaling 7-8 miles and one track workout between 4-6 miles of intervals depending on the workout.
I'd put my avg weekly volume @ 5k pace around 4 miles, which I feel like is not enough to get the adaptations I want, but find it too hard to incorporate more into a single track session. What % of my miles should be at 5k pace? Is there a rule of thumb for this? And the question goes for 10k pace volume, which I usually have 5-6mi of per workout? Should I cut back on threshold to every other week to get more event-specific work? Or am I maybe incorporating too much event specific work?
Context: been running for ~10 years, modest PBs of 15:15 / 31:30 / 70 flat. 60mpw is my sweet spot
