The American Fork and Herriman averages are especially impressive due to the elevation that those guys competed at. I know altitude’s impact on performance is debated because most of these kids have lived in Utah their whole lives, but it’s important to at least consider
Out of all schools that didn’t make this list, Southlake Carroll had the best XC team last fall.
Let’s take a look at this team
3200 Cords - 9:07 Alvarez - 9:11 Van De Berghe - 9:16
2 miles Leonard - 9:02 Troutman - 9:04 Both at NBNI. I don’t think either of them ran the 3200 this year yet. But these 3200 times are converted to 8:58 and 9:00.
One of their top XC scorers (Bullard) doesn’t do track. He does triathlon instead.
Niwot's top 2 at NXN haven't run the 3200 this year. Also, most of their kids are racing at 5500ft. so their average won't be that low..but they'll be ready next fall!
if you only use non-seniors what do these teams look like??
CBA Barrett - 8:43 Hnatt - 9:14 R Schmitt - 9:18 Falkowski - 9:22 G Schmitt - 9:24 Fields - 9:49 (indoor in January) They also have Mastroly who ran a 4:21 1600. Doesn’t run many 3200s races but he was on varsity for XC last fall.
Herriman Manwaring - 9:12 J Tang - 9:12 M Tang - 9:20 Ogomo - 9:34 (but was #2 on the team at NXN which Herriman won. He doesn’t run many 3200 races) M Steadman - 9:56
American Fork are killing it, wow. Goes to show how much of a psychological factor there is in running. I'm not sure anyone would really argue that Simmons, Jaster, and Evans are a better trio than Clinger, Parker, and Johns, but once Newbury set the standard other teams have followed quickly.

Nonseniors for Niwot (who took 5th at NXN with 0 seniors and 2 juniors) Geldean - 9:20 Robbie - 9:23 Keeton - 9:32 Kear - 9:40 Engtrakul- 9:47 Marshall - 9:48 (raced at NXN) Mazurana - 10:02 (raced at NXN) No 3200 times for Culpepper or Sullivan
Nonseniors for Southlake Carroll Leonard - 8:53 Cords - 9:07 Severson - 9:18 Fuller - 9:45 Lo - 10:02 They also have current junior Bullard who does triathlon in the spring but not track and was sometimes #2 on the team last fall.

American Fork graduates 6 NXN 2023 participants, but here is what they return Evans - 8:46 Plewe - 9:24 Moore - 9:26 Bement - 9:43 Williams - 9:51 Ward - 10:04
It's worth noting that most of the times listed for Niwot are run at around 5200'. In addition to those listed Culpepper and Mazurana ran 9:25 at a track meet held on their track last November during the XC season and two of them ran the 2 mile at New Balance Indoors. Below is a complete list that includes altitude adjusted times and 2 mile times. Altitude adjusted times are marked with *.
Niwot Returners:
Culpepper- 9:07* (1st runner at NXN)-sophomore
Mazurana- 9:07* (7th runner at NXN)-junior
Geldean-9:11 (time converted from 2 mile, 5th runner at NXN)-junior
Keeton- 9:13* (6th runner at NXN) sophomore
Robbie 9:19 (time converted from 2 mile, 4th runner at NXN)- sophomore
Kear- 9:21* (didn't run NXN, but ran at state and NXR)-junior
Marshall- 9:29* (3rd runner at NXN)- sophomore
Sullivan- 4:11* (has not run a 3200-2nd runner at NXN)- freshman
I think one of Niwot's strengths is their depth. If 1 or 2 people have an off race, it's not as big of a deal.

Adding a 6th & 7th runner to Belen & Herriman
Belen has an 8th grader (Veloso) who ran a 10:11. Also a junior Prieguez who ran a 4:31.
Herriman has sophomore Runnels who ran a 10:05 in March. Also ran a 16:19 at NXR. Also soph Wardle who ran a 10:14. And a 4:36 freshman Briggs.

Tired of seeing these over exaggerated altitude marks. Use NCAA altitude conversions please.

Based on the Milesplit team scores, CBA currently has by far the best group of returning 3200 times. Even without Mastroly.
