Just read an announcement on Instagram from Boise State saying that Corey Imhels was no longer the coach at Boise State. Any idea what happened???

Terrible abuse of athletes and eating disorders happened.
I always like him. His team results seemed below par the last few years.
^^^^
He's a terrible coach that can't develop talent.
Title 9
4 guys kicked off team and Imhels wasn't allowed to say good bye or have any contact with the team
Suppringly not related to his systematic abuse of female athletes. He was just covering for athletes who did title nine things to NARPS and his female athletes.
Curious to see where he ends up, his kids are pretty fast and have one or two years left in hs
Good luck with that slimeball
Top recruit Ruth White signed with the Broncos last fall.
Just like his buddy Walt Drenth.
As a former athlete of his, I think this was a long time coming. I hope they can put an amazing coach in his place that can coach and develop talent. Boise is so beautiful and an amazing running hub.
…what?
Obviously not true. Lisa Koll, Betsy Saina, along with many others.
Lisa Koll ran in 2007-2008, and was an athlete at Iowa State, as was Betsy. It's not exactly a supportive statement to use athletes from a different school that are examples from almost 20 years ago. It looks a little dated lol.
His coaching approach was making the women lose a bunch of weight to run faster. Didn't really work with the men. Lisa Kohl's body broke down after college because losing weight to run fast is not a long term approach. Emma Bates also had to figure out how to run fast on her own. Allie O is still dealing with her eating disorder/weight problems she's had. Many more from Iowa State who took a long time after college to get healthy from eating disorders or just never ran again.
Jerry Schumacher broke Lisa and her weight was never an issue
I don’t think he ever encourage eating disorders. No coach wants to deal with that mess.
But I do think his team has a culture of eating disorders due to routinely recruiting athletes that were already having issues. They were willing to take on “at risk” athletes because they were fast. Sadly once you have a few of those athletes running well, other get sucked into it.
The year they had the 3 freshmen with DRAMATIC weight loss that all were flying was pretty hard to shake
Again, bringing up an example that's like 20 years old isn't really relevant to what happened NOW. 🙄 Maybe Corey did a great job with those athletes at that time, but anyone with eyes can see that within the past 4 years at Boise State, there have been major issues. They have fallen from a top 2 ream on men's and women's xc in the MW to the bottom...and a top team at West regionals, to outside looking in. They haven't made an appearance at Nationals in 4 years!
If all people can do is say, "but but Lisa! But Betsy! But Allie!" Its a little long in the tooth for good results.
As someone who was on an Ihmels team at Boise State, while he didn't encourage eating disorders, he certainly didn't discourage the practice as well. I remember a team meeting at the start of the school year outside and was probably 80 degrees out. A lot of the women's team was bundled up in puffy jackets and shivering because they were so cold. During that meeting, him and his wife, who was a Dr on campus, were saying how proud they were of the team by getting better the "right way" and not having an eating disorder issue on the team.
About 18 months later when a lot of the team was falling apart and having some serious medical problems because of their eating disorders, he showed no sympathy and just replaced them with the new crop of runners on the team.
On top of the eating disorder issues, he was just not a fun person to be around. He was always holed up in his office with the lights off, and barely lifted a finger if an athlete was having problems, and often blamed the athlete to their face when they were having issues.
He drove a lot of people out of the sport, just look at how many people made it to the end of their 4-5 years in the program that were still on the team. Also think it says a lot that any athlete who continued to compete post college has never publicly credited Ihmels with this success, and some go so far as to explain that Ihmels did not coach them in college and an assistant did.
Not a lot of tears shed from alumni when the news came out, and I know a lot are hoping that someone can come in and make the program something to want to represent again, because Boise is one of the best places to train in the US
How in the heck did it take this long? This is a great example of admins not caring about this sport.
I thought Emma was one of Brad's athletes?
Also, I second the motion from the other thread that Braden is ready for a Head Coaching job. Time for him to get back to the Northwest and be the captain of the ship.
