If it was 4 hours between leaving the bar and his accident then he was 2 beers under the limit. It takes an hour to get rid of a pint of beer, so it is safe to drive 2 hours after he leaves the bar.
Are we really going to put this cloud over this man? Come on most of us, if not all of us that drink even occasionally have driven after a couple beers. Don't label him incorrectly just like it wasn't fair how Steve Prefontaine was labeled when alcohol was in his system when he died. All of us probably have had at least one incident that was a split second from death, whether it's a deer crossing rhe road, another driver etc etc
IF he was drunk driving, he killed someone by being at the wheel. "All of us probably have had at least one incident that was a split second from death....". Sure we did. In the passenger seat of a dudes car in high school or college where we were stuck and they were driving insane. Remember those rides? If that guy killed us, would they deserve a cloud over them? Famous people shouldn't get a pass just because they are famous.
Two reporters from The Nation - Cellestine Olilo & Bernard Rotich - have painstakingly retraced Kelvin Kiptum's final hours, even looking at CCTV footage and talking to the people who waited on him at three different bars/restaurants.
It's worth noting that while his father a few months ago said that Kelvin had never had a drop of alcohol that is not true. Kiptum had two beers at the first establishment which he left around 7 pm (He died just before 11 pm). There is no mention of him drinking alcohol at the final two places and the waiter at the final establishment, where they closed the door in a VIP room, said he didn't order anything to drink at all. The toxicology reports haven't come back yet.
The article also includes this line, "The waiters' accounts are that by the time Kiptum was leaving, he was sober, and his gait was steady."

As a trauma nurse in the icu, your thought process is job security for me. What’s worse is when you actually kill someone else and you end up living. Your type is the absolute worst, man. Seriously.
No accounts of him drinking one or more Martini, no accounts of wine consumption, no accounts of shots or boilermakers and no accounts of mixed drinks. We are left to debate size of the beers and strength of the beers. Most likely, Mr. K Kiptum was in 0.03 to 0.09 range. Let's wait for more facts.

I'm not sure if things have changed, but I have been told by numerous friends who have visited Kenya that there is a significant stigma against beer drinking. As in: the only people who drink beer are alcoholics, and if you ask for beer, people will think you are an alcoholic... it's a different perception for wine or cocktails.
I don't think there is any reason to think Kiptum was alcoholic, but I find this choice of drink odd unless things have changed in the last few years.
This is the very first thing I thought when I heard about his death. It is just what you do when going to watch football. Not surprised at all if this turns out to be true.
From day 1, I've thought I'd be stunned if he wasn't drunk. And way more than 2 beers drunk. He coud have been pounding from a flask, drinking while not at these places, etc.
The only other explanation would be some sort of medical event like heart attack as he seemingly had plenty of time to react to going off road but didn't do so in a logical way.
