It’s ironic that the sports administrators who allowed the transgender swimmer into the women’s category did so to avoid being sued, now find themselves being sued for doing it. Good for the women fighting back to protect their protected category from men suffering with gender dysmorphia! The women’s category is for women to compete fairly again other women, not a self-help group for men suffering from gender dysmorphia.
This is not true because biological females that transition to male should also have the opportunity to co Pete as men. This cuts both ways.
The intersex & trans issue in sports is entirely about womens sports. Nobody cares about women competing in the male category because there is no physiological advantage there.
Everyone involved in sports knows this, so I wonder if you are from outside of sports, just here for this debate, perhaps?

One of the eyeroll-inducing things about this subject is that people with a degree in "gender studies" think this means they know anything about sport. I had such an exchange with someone where they didn't even realise that for the throwing events women throw a considerably lighter implement which undermined their remark that the sexes were "quite close" in these. When I explained this they tried to change the subject.

You’re incorrect. The “physiological advantage” argument was brought up by the anti-trans movement to move the goalposts when they realized there wasn’t enough support to just ban trans athletes based on their gender.
I’ve been involved with the sport for over 20 years. I coach real athletes. I know both sides of the debate very well. There is a very small, very vocal minority of people who are against trans athletes competing. Overwhelmingly, actual athletes, coaches, and families are in favor of letting people participate in sports based on their identified gender. Win or lose, doesn’t matter.

Physiological advantage shouldn't even play into the equation. All that matters is inclusion and nothing else.
As long as everyone has fun and does their best place doesn't matter.
Over a dozen female athletes are suing the National Collegiate Athletics Association for letting transgender athletes compete against them and use female locker rooms in college sports.
At the center of the class-action lawsuit is Lia Thomas, the trans athlete who dominated the 2022 NCAA Swimming Championships while a student at the University of Pennsylvania. The suit states that both the NCAA and Georgia Tech, which hosted the event, knowingly violated Title IX, the federal statute that guarantees equal opportunity for men and women in college education and sports.
...
Its funny though. Other organizations are coming to conclusions that are supported by the left and right, men and women... but if you had to guess who would not be able to get it right? Lets be honest, its the NCAA. They get literally everything wrong.
Im not sure why this is title anything? These are clear exceptions, as many are biological males and have different genders? Sports are based on sex not gender for a reason. So, address it, but address it correctly. It s just crazy that they cant get anything right.

Yup, the real world is nothing like the losers on this site yelling into an echo chamber egged on by the co-flounderers.
Most women wouldn’t touch the transphobic creatures here with a ten foot pole simply because most people don’t get all rabid and foamy about sport and there’s little reason to even consider separating trans women from cis women in any other non-private sphere. It’s all too common even for women in sport, even when they lose to a trans woman, to be supportive of trans.

I am involved in the organisation of a type of running where the subject has come up for real and there were tragic consequences. Most runners just want to run and not get accused of all the usual stuff from the usual suspects if they say what they think. When the feedback is anonymous the opinions are very much the opposite of your claims.

LRC posters legitimately interested in debate: what do we do about this guy? Do we simply ignore him and hope he gets bored? Do we report his posts because he trolls (engages in bad faith) and insults people?
As a proponent of free speech, I'm reluctant to report him (I never have). But I'm pretty sure he reports some of us.

I think you're mostly correct, but there is also something more sinister happening. A lot of girls and young women have been taught that all observable differences between males and females are the downstream effect of an oppressive society and/or that any advantages trans girls or women have should be overlooked because of their alleged oppression.
This fiction is sustainable because modern American social life usually insulates us from sex differences in our jobs and personal lives. Many people don't engage in manual labor, and violence against women is widely condemned. I worry that many people won't budge until male/female differences rear their head in ugly/violent ways.
Polling by organizations like Yougov, Gallup and Pew show that only a small minority of Americans support allowing males who identify as transgender, or claim they do, to participate in female sports. Polls in in the UK show this is true of Britons as well.
Large majorities of adults in the USA and UK support existing rules and laws that give people with transgender identities and unconventional “gender expression” the same rights as the rest of the population and which protect everyone from bullying, harassment, hate crimes and unfair discrimination in areas like education and employment based on our perceived, claimed, presumed or actual sex, sexual orientation, gender expression and gender identity (or lack thereof for the many millions who don't have a gender identity and/or don't ascribe to gender identity ideology).
But on most other issues pertaining to “trans inclusion” Americans and Britons today are sharply divided.
As for sports: virtually no one is "against trans athletes competing." Most people think that everyone who wants to participate and compete in sports should be allowed to do so.
However, only a small minority of Americans and Britons believe that males who identify as transgender, or claim they do, should be able to compete in female sports.
In other words, the main controversy is not over "trans athletes competing" in sports. It's about male trans athletes competing in the female category.
A Yougov report published just four weeks ago (February 16, 2024) says that according to the most recent polling results, only 19% of Americans today support “allowing transgender athletes to play on sports teams that match their gender identity.” 59% oppose. 22% are unsure.
31% support “allowing transgender people to use bathrooms that match their gender identity.” 50% oppose. 19% are not sure.
34% support ”allowing transgender women to use women's refuges for sexual assault and domestic violence." 35% oppose. 30% are not sure.
30% support “requiring prisons to house transgender prisoners according to their gender identity.” 40% oppose. 31% are not sure.

This dude GD, it’s almost entertaining to see it so aggravated.

I suspect greater numbers of American and British poll respondents would say they oppose allowing male adults and adolescents in women’s and girls’ sports, restrooms, prisons, SA and DV refuges based on the gender identity claims that the males who want in make if polling orgs asked their questions using language that's plainer, more accurate, clearer, and which makes it easier for respondents to understand what they’re really being asked about.
By which I mean if professional pollsters eschewed intentionally misleading terms like ‘transgender women/girls” and instead used terms such as “males/men/boys who identify as transgender,” “males/men/boys who claim to be transgender,” “men who claim they are women” and “men/boys who claim they are girls.”
I also have a hunch that more poll respondents would come out against allowing adult and adolescent males to use special identity claims to gain access to sports, spaces and services meant for female people if the general public understood that the vast majority of so-called “transgender women” and “transgender girls” today have not had any surgeries or taken medications to alter their bodies in any meaningful way - and even those who have had operations and taken cross-sex hormones supposedly resuling in "medical transition" almost always still have their dicks and balls.
What's more, the vast majority of adult and teenage males who say they are "trans women" or "trans girls" today are attracted to females sexually.
In other words, I think that more Americans and Britons would be against inclusion of male "trans people" in female sports, spaces and services if they understood that most “transgender women” and “transgender girls” in their teens today are heterosexual or bisexual blokes who in the past would have been known simply as cross-dressers, transvestites, female impersonators or dudes in drag.
Men suffering from gender dysmorphia should not be competing against women. Their affirmation treatment should not negatively impact others. The NCAA allowed this to happen, and the plaintiffs have a strong case.

This is incorrect. There are at least several states that ban female to male trans students from competing in HS boys' sports.
For people who support that ban, it is not about physiological advantage.
