Yeah, I agree. Try going over them the Kenyan way. You might be surprised to find that it works better for you.

True. It's about getting over the barrier using the least amount of energy not about how pretty you look.
Last olympics a kid from Japan ran sub 8:10 and he ticked the entire race.
That said, you can't be scared of the barrier regardless of the fact that it's solid wood.
Pretty simple. I teach kids to hurdle… I just move the hurdles to grass until they get good enough, its a lot less daunting for them to possibly crash on the soft grass.
without being mean, what i think the guy saying you hurdle when you can sprint them is saying, is we probably aren't (yet? ever?) going at the pace where your time expense going over the barriers is winning or losing your race. you probably lose more time stuttering and balking at the obstacle than a safe but confident effort over.
it's good to work on hurdle technique because well done it's efficient and saves time, but we're in triage mode. the biggest waste of time is freaking out and slowing down. hop on, hop over. get that down. get comfortable. then maybe even start with some hurdle drills on the ones that do give. heck, i know of a D3 team or two that even have entered their SC kids in 400H also, same skill, plenty of endurance to do it, fewer laps. you obviously get a different reaction jumping hurdles but the forgiving fall-over makes it safer to learn.
i would start off jump on jump off until you're confident in not just practice but some meets. i would worry about jumping them and such when you're no longer stuttering because that's getting into counter-intuitive stuff like attacking the hurdle that you won't want to do until you're comfortable clearing and not freaking out.
