Alright folks. Let’s cut the silence. It’s GMAC championship week. Let’s look at the theories for the distance events as we are sure to have an exciting 2 days.
Starting on Friday, we have the men’s 5000 meter run. I think it’s clear as day who the champion is. Noah Fischer will have a hay day and be out for a leisurely stroll to walk away with gold.
however the real excitement comes later on with the DMR. With 7 teams at Provo, and 2 more that are perfectly capable of being there if they actually put 2 good teams together, it’s going to be an absolute spectacle. The only thing I’d bet money on is tiffin not walking away with gold. Kalifi is sure to let down no matter where he gets it. My personal favorite is Findlay, with Jordan Foster having a recent 4:03 mile showing in Boston. This will be a fantastic way to end Fridays events.
Mile, we have fan-favorite dillan haviland. Once again, 7 men who have hit Provo, and many right in the cusp. Theory to be: has the flying Brit been secretly training himself to shake the GMAC in the mile? Was his 4:11 simply a ploy to make the fast heat? Is there a possibility he’s been time trialling casual 3:55s throughout the season? A guest appearance from HRH in the mile would certainly be something. However, I am hoping for a showdown between foster and haviland.
Looking ahead, the Flying Brit, HRH, is the favored in the 800. I would have loved to see Haviland show in this event, however without a time on the season, it is unlikely we will see this race in indoor. He may be the only one who can challenge the reigning champion for his title. But, the growth of the Ashland crew is certainly something to look out for. Can Daylen Madison pull off the upset of the day? Also note that tiffin shockingly has times that didn’t need a conversion to be their season bests. Give them a prize for that.
In the 3000, I would love to see a serious PR effort from Ramen Felumlee. In at a 4:05 mile, this man can certainly turn some heads. Noah Fischer is ranked 4th- if everyone shows, do we think that he can stand not finishing with a podium spot? Only time will tell.
let’s hear other theories and thoughts going forward. Best of luck to all.
