7:23.81 Indoor by Girma stacks up pretty well against that 7:24.00 split I'd say. Hopefully they go head to head for the WR
Jakob ran 7:21 for the last 3000m of his 2-mile WR. Gotta think he could go 7:18 if the race was 3000m. 7:23.81 is great but it does not 'stacks up pretty well'.
With Jakob speed and Bakkali technique you have a 7:45. So 7:52 is still quite soft compared to others WRs
i'm suprised this get 0 up/17 down. Any argument?
Best tall steeplers only loose 25sec comapred to 3000 flat. An incredible talent like komen and Jakob able to run 7:20 on the 3000m flat, being tall and focusing on the steeple could run 7:45. It's not like you can't be tall and the fastest or the fastest and the best on barriers. Being both is possible.
PB of all time greatest steeplers :
Girma : 7:23/7:52 being far for optimal on barriers, could already run now 7:49 in a perfect race (better pacing and better technique) with his 3000 ability.
El Bakkali : 3:31/7:33/7:56
Shaheen : 3:33/7:32/7:53/12:48
Mekhissi : 3:33/7:44/8:00/13:20
Tahri : 3:32/7:33/8:01/13:12
Jager : 7:35/8:00/13:00
I put those who ran frequently other distances. Not mentionning Kemboi and Kipruto 7:44 or Vroemen 7:58 in the flat 3000.
Now imagine what a 3:26/7:19/12:3x guy can run on the steeple if he trains for it.
