This thread was initially entitled, "Kara Goucher + Boston Marathon Controversy" . 4/20 update The BAA has issueda statement herethat amongst other things "we did not deliver on our promise to make it a great day for everyone".
Probably because I was hanging out with them.
Kara is very gullible and she wants to be seen as if she is on the side of justice. She clearly doesn’t give a damn or she would have reported Alberto’s behavior at the time, if she is telling the truth. Instead she kept it to herself because of $$$$$$$.
"Really upsetting to see this today. I cannot imagine this happening- yet it did. A day of celebration and joy tainted by this. What are we doing? Running community- we preach inclusivity but we have a long way to go. This is not ok."
We do?
similar large group of police lined up along Boylston. if you're looking for something wrong, you will find it
It's really dumb to comment on this situation without any context.
Racists are gonna be racists. Not surprised to see doubters on this forum.
The claim that this reflects poorly on "the running community" (whatever that means) is especially lacking in context. Even if the cheering section was targeted because its members were primarily Black, Goucher is implying that runners were the ones who got the cops to show up.
Which runners? Marathoners calling 911 from mile 22? People watching from the area who, somehow, could easily be identified as runners? If "the running community" means "every single person who comes out to watch the Boston Marathon," the phrase is meaningless.
Kara is a woke grifter.
Here are the top 6 runners. Apparently Boston's alleged "racism" didn't affect them at all:
1. Evans Chebet (KEN) — 2:05:54
2. Gabriel Geay (TAN) — 2:06:04
3. Benson Kipruto (KEN) — 2:06:06
4. Albert Korir (KEN) — 2:08:01
5. Zouhair Talbi (MOR) — 2:08:35
6. Eliud Kipchoge (KEN) — 2:09:23
Yup, just like Kara brought Dr. Brown along to NOP and then acts like she is shocked he is doping the team up.

Kara sounds like the woke counterpart of that LR poster who keeps crap posting about Baltimore and Chicago all the time.
durrrrrrrrr 🤡
Someone posted a pic of cops lining the finish. There's a lot of them, but they're turned toward the race and cheering for the runners and kind of relaxed. This group of cops is stonily facing the people hanging out like they are on the frontline of something. I don't get it. I think there is a difference.

So do you believe that racism doesn’t exist?
Someone in Kara's comments had mentioned that they were going onto/interfering with the course, which - if true and I have absolutely no idea if it is - could explain the colder dynamic with the officers. A local reporter asked the initial video poster (who did not take it) for contact info of those involved...I hope she's able to dig a little deeper into what happened.
Citius Mag also retweeted this video.
The video does look bad but definitely needs more context and explanation before automatically jumping to "it's racist." I hate people amplifying this message without actually investigating it.
I remember running by this group. It was in Newton, maybe around mile 18/19? They were loud but no more so than other groups and not disruptive when I was there. So absolutely could be at least an over-reaction by the cops that was racially motivated
On the other hand, they did shoot off a cannon with confetti (you see lots of it on the ground in the video). That struck me as a stupid (jerky?) move unless they were planning to clean it up everywhere (they would need to stay LATE on the course to do that!) and it littered the course for some period. Not particularly nice IMO.
That alone doesn't justify this police presence but does indicate that maybe there were other actions that led to what we saw in a 1 minute video.
