Can we at least start with these guys before recency bias kicks in with Jones, Kessler, etc.?

Yes. #2 at Kinney in '85... only behind Marc Davis and his blazing 14:38.
FWIW girls would be NY in a landslide...Tuohy, Cuffe, Ryan, Baloga, Chmiel, Blood, Rauber, Walters, Huddle, Cain...there's an argument their B team could beat any other state's A team.
Boys is a little more interesting, I think it depends on where you hold it. Balboa Park? California and it's not close. Portland Meadows? Who really know what would happen. All things equal, however, it's hard to bet against the best team from Cali, although Michigan, Illinois and Utah would also field some very strong teams.
Alaska would do okay for 600,000 people and 6 months of winter a year

Schweizer never even won the Iowa State XC Meet - her highest finish was 2nd her SR year behind McKenzie Yanek, who deserves consideration. That year Schweizer ran 14:09 for 4k (17:41 5k pace). Paityn Noe ran a 16:48 5k at the state meet last fall and would wipe the floor with high school Schweizer.
And Lisa Uhl (nee Koll) never finished higher than 8th at the state meet so she’s definitely out.
Good point. I would include Noe on that list if we are talking purely hs accomplishments
Oregon - purely off high school abilities

You don’t know your history, Billy McChesney should be top 3.

I think Tyrone Gorze is better than Jespersen, and maybe Maton. Hess is a more difficult comparison since he ran 40+ years ago.
C’mon …
Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, the Dakotas, New Mexico, Vermont, New Hampshire, Alaska, Hawaii, Maine, Nevada
