Man… I got back into running more deliberately and racing after a few years away from the sport and his college days channel was helpful and motivating. I really did enjoy the insight to the workouts the team did.
Now, after the Brooks Beasts experience, …it just sucks to see him without any structure. He’s gotten (more) annoying and less dedicated to being a pro. Gives up too easily at the slightest bit of struggle. Dude just sucks now.
I’d say most (myself included) of LRC posters have found ourselves in Spencer’s (metaphorical) shoes. You show some success in running in HS, join up with a college team, have some ups and downs for 4-5 years with times/racing success, graduate, and take a stab at this running thing while you’re still young.
The difference is that Spence has been stabbing away for three years now without any improvement on his college times (7:58 aside), and he somehow makes enough money off his social media presence to continue to “chase the dream.” But now it’s devolved to the point where he’s just training to train, not training to race. And when you think about it, he’s really training to continue his social media livelihood. As long as he’s pulling in 10k+ views per video and racking up subscribers, he’ll continue to put out click bait vids to fund his lifestyle.
Right now he’s the Peter Pan of the running world. The boy who never grows up and can be anything (sub 14 minute 5ker, regain sub 50 400m fitness, pacer test “world record holder,” trials qualifier, etc), but instead chooses to never fully commit to one thing and see it all the way through.
It’s sad. But also entertaining in a twisted way. Kinda like how people watch these mess-of-a-human contestants on dating shows try to “find love.”
All that being said, I’ll probably still watch him run around a high school track while wearing his old college gear while running workouts that he could’ve run when he was 16 even though he’s what, 26? Because that Peter Pan part of me still lives on inside, and it hopes that maybe, just maybe, that TAS can finally figure it out. That he’ll make a plan and f*****g stick to it all the way through for once.
Maybe he will. Most likely he won’t. But damn if it isn’t entertaining.
said he's not doing Carlsbad because they were going to go on their way to an altitude camp.......but AllieO is still racing Carlsbad.
**** excuse from Spencer, and saying he may do a 'for fun time trial' is once again avoiding the real hard stuff. man is month by month torching his own running career, and all this from the guy recently posting 'let negative comments lead to positive results'.. well ya gotta finish a race first dude
TAS if you’re lurking and reading this… can you please just race? I still watch portions of videos, but it’s becoming a smaller and smaller amount as there’s seemingly no direction. Even hobby joggers hop in 5ks every now and then. At this point it just seems like you’re running for general fitness over anything else, which sort of removes the A from TAS.

exactly. I almost couldn't believe it when he said he was dropping a planned race yet again. Seriously dude? Just do a local 5K or something. quit being a little b*(#*
