What will Katir run in the 1500 this year... 7:24 is an incredible time, matched by very few. I know how people in this thread feel about low 7:20s but there is no denying Katir is now in elite company. Is 3:27 a crazy thing to say with the super shoes, competition, and shape he is in?
Maybe pump the brakes with 12:3x talk regarding Girma. He ran 7:27i two years ago and has done nothing really commensurate with a sun 12:40. It is possible but indoors is faster now and these guys are unpredictable.
a good but not great (probably an endurance-based 3:28 guy) athlete will probably run 7:16 in a good race (pacer, low/no wind, and even better shoes). Komen's 7:20 is great but not untouchable

Girma's best event is the 3000m. He chooses to run 3k with barriers rather than an extra 2k

Thats fair, especially the last part. I guess we can only wait until outdoors to see.

I would love to see Girma try the 1500m. He has a sweet stride.
Was it a disaster because of the doubles or because many of the Ethiopians peaked incorrectly? Did the womens side have the same issue? Genuine questions. I wasn't paying attention to this topic last year.
Fair Q. The women were better but Gidey raced sparingly on her own sked, Taye who missed out was racing a lot, the Pineda group (Tsegay) is more mid-D and fared decently. Seyaum was a late revelation…I guess just looking at it Barega, Wale, Telahun Bekele, and Aregawi were getting after it a lot on the circuit. I think going back they might stick to only a couple all-out races like Krop/Kimeli did.
It was an issue exclusive to the men. Ethiopian women medaled in every distance event except for 800m. Silver in the 1500, gold and bronze in the 5000, gold in the 10000, silver and bronze in the steeple, and gold in the marathon.
2k split was only 4:58.38, yet they were ahead of the wavelight. Followed by a 2:25 final km. They must have targetted the negative split with the wavelight.
If I had to guess what Girma will do after this - 3k steeple world record and world title, and then focus on 5k? This guy has 12:3x potential with a 7:23....
Wale hasn't done much since running 7:24. Was also a steepler, weird

He hasn’t approached the 7:24.9 fitness, which has been the issue. He did run 12:53 to win Ethiopian Trials. Girma has flashed really good form pretty much every year. Soloing sub 8s last year basically.
Could Girma go after the WR in the steeple this year? With the way El Bakkali has been racing in championship races the past few years and the increasing pace of championship races, it might take a time close to 7:53 to win Worlds this year.
Also, Katir v. Jakob v. Naguse in an outdoor 1500 is my #1 wanted race as of now.
