Mens 3K light set to 7:24 but the pacers are only going 7:27 pace?
It says the lights are set to 29.8 for the first ten laps and 29.38 for the last five, which = 7:24.90.
Thanks, that makes sense. Didn't know they could vary the pace like that with the lights. Will be interesting to see who takes it on after the pacers step off
We'll see if athletes actually go for it. Tons of high profile meets see world record or near world record pacing requested only for any combination of pacers overrunning/underrunning and athletes not wanting to be the sacrificial lamb at the front breaking the air for everyone. Eg women's 3000m in Torun last week had a fistful of low 8:20 capable women all eyeing each other and jogging at 9:00 pace until a last 600m burnup. All those same women pretty much are in the w3000 today - have they busted the rust and are now ready to take risks or will they sit off again?
