Very impressive, blew past the pacer when he decided it was time to go.

3:53.53 to be exact. His last 600 was probably ~1:25.
Which meet?
BU Terrier Classic. He’s entered in the 3k too, hopefully he runs and it wasn’t just to leave his options open.
4 Georgetown sub 4... would have been cooler if they were all in the same heat though.
Cruz Culpepper 3:57.19
He is pacing the 3k per Citius. Nice performance from Luis. His 3K/5K pbs should improve hugely this year. Sub-7:30 and sub-12:55 very possible in my eyes.
It looked like the pacer and 2 Georgetwon leaders were slowing approaching 1000 and he just stepped on the gas there.
55.62 for 400m split between 1009-1409. Held on for a 28.94 the last lap. Quality running.
So his last 600 was 3:46.8 mile pace. Quality running indeed.
How does Mike Smith coach the 1500m? Any differently than the 5000-10000 group?
All his athletes drop down and kill it in the mile/1500m. I know they do a ton of double threshold now, but he doesn’t seem to be doing crazy speedwork year round either does he? Always been curious about this
I love following his career. By now most of you know his story- came here undocumented at an early age but has effectively lived like any other kid in the U.S. Unfortunately, our immigration laws are such that he was not able to track toward U.S. citizenship and so internationally he represents his birth nation, Guatemala. Beyond this he's such a positive, likeable person and whether he represented Guatemala, the U.S. or any other country he's just the type of athlete I want to root for.
You don't need "crazy speedwork" to run a good mile as a 3k/5k guy.

Check Drew Bosley's Strava. Posts a lot of his track work in detail there, and I would assume Grijalva's training is similar

Luis is racing the 3k evidently
