Ran the marathon in Jan 2014. It was mid 80s and humid on the Saturday for the half the day before. Marathon Sunday was cooler. 6am at the start. Just shy of 70d by 9am. Then it never got out of 50s the rest of the week.
Hopefully they run it thru the Disney properties. Rupp can stop for character photo ops every mile. Runners will be shocked to find out they need to wear their magic bands and swipe at the elite water stops . $8 per bottle
when the Hugheses tried to build a high quality 15k back in 2015, they staged it at Lake Nona. I
logistics will be great - lots of hotel space, close to the airport, plenty of food options, lots of conference space for meetings - but it’s a shame it won’t be downtown as downtown Orlando is a reasonably fun place.
For what it’s worth, the Track Shack events group isn’t just some local yokel group. They’ve done timing for plenty of major national races (including the trials in Los Angeles), and they direct the Disney races, the Orlando Half, a local 6 race series and a handful of other local races on top of the National caliber races.
Funniest thing is these runners like Kelsey Pontius (Beckman) announcing on social media that she’s hoping for the most Florida of Florida days during the trials. Got to tell ya Kelsey no amount of hot temperatures in the world is going to give you a chance with your 2:33 against the top women in America.
With this announcement, it's now open season for any OT qualifier or potential qualifier to milk every possible mention of their nonexistent connection to the Olympics on socials. #paris2024 #olympics2024 #roadtoparis #teamUSA
Glad they finally announced this mostly for the benefit of those who have qualified. USATF probably thinks Orlando will have more eyes on it versus Chattanooga but I gotta say they do some high level triathlon events there that are always well attended/well run. It probably would've been a good host site.
Orlando is relatively limited in regards to parks/long run locations. Blue Jacket Park (located in the Baldwin Park neighborhood) is a popular location for runners as there is a ~2.5 mile paved lake loop & attaches to the Cady Way trail (~8 miles). Located 10 min from downtown Orlando.
Clermont/10 Mile Loop used to be the best spot until they paved the first 5 miles. It's still fine but more traffic has seen a substantial decrease in athletes making the 30-45 min trek for soft surfaces.
Not really shaming anyone for competing. If yo hate qualified, then you deserve to talk it up and ride that train. It’s hilarious though to be so outta touch with reality as she is to wish for the hottest of Florida weather like that will give her the edge to qualify. Another girl who is to cool for the normal crowd, refusing to use Strava but brags up her ability on instagram and her other pages.

Lake Nona looks to be too far from where Track Shack wants to stage this thing. Sounds like they really want (need?) to keep it downtown centric with Lake Eola as the start/finish area.

I was just about to suggest the Clermont 10 mile loop. I’ve only been there a few times since it’s an hour and a half away from my house, but I didn’t realize they paved half of it.
I agree it’s a good running route even if part of it is paved now. It’s even a little hilly for FL standards.
a couple years ago, track shack removed me from the results because one of “their runners” said he finished in front of me and never saw me. In reality I finished in front of him so he was mad and told mommy and daddy. I sent my gps data and a photo of their runner finishing behind me. They placed me back in results after a few emails.
The next race I placed high and they completely skipped my name at the awards ceremony. I looked at the other people I was with to confirm that I wasn’t mistaken. I truly do not like that organization.
I’ve had other issues too. At this point it feels like more than bad luck. *adjusts foil hat*
To answer rojo, no. There’s not really any trails. Not any you want to run on. Running through pine flatwoods is not the most exciting endeavor (sand sand sand). Clay road is not what it use to be and that’s already 40 minutes and 3 towns outside of Orlando. I’d personally recommend north into Seminole/Volusia if you want trails. Specifically Debary.
There are hills in the city. Sort of. They’re actually in winter park, fern park, casselberry. Nothing to write home about but they’re big enough to check your cadence. Leu gardens is at 100ft. The lake wales ridge near Clermont will challenge most any hilly courses in America. Not as steep, but long climbs for hundreds of meters. I guess you could go west towards hiawassee or clarcona to get hills but it’s yawn inducing to run over there.
Since CIM is run on the first Sunday in December, will next year's edition be a qualifier? Dec. and Jan. both have 31 days, so thinking it should just sneak in before the 60 days prior to the Trials on Feb. 3, 2024, given CIM race date of Dec. 3, 2023.

In 2020, Houston (mid-January) was on the last day to qualify for the Trials 6 weeks later on Feb. 29th. Presumably, CIM 2023 will be within the window for the 2024 Trials, but doubtful that Houston 2024 will be since it will only be 2-3 weeks before.

That’s not how it will play out according to Jon. He spoke to Chris Chavez and it is now confirmed that the start/finish line area will be right next to Lake Eola (downtown area) where the Turkey Trot and OUC half take place. It will be a looped course but USATF must approve the exact route.

I don’t get why Jon said that people are excited for a flat, looped course. I want it to mimic the Olympic course. Of course, if we need people to hit times, which it sounds like we do according to World Athletics, then I guess a fast course is good. It sounds like the weather matches up well with Paris.
