She lost at Nuttycombe to Monsoon that season before avenging that loss at nationals. Kelati also had a 19:11 that season.

15 minute 5k is not a generational talent. 20 year olds run 30 seconds faster than that. Valby may be but has not proven it yet either.

I would be very interested to see the LACCTIC conversion for Kelati's 18:58. In that race she beat the 2nd place runner Kurgat by almost one minute.
15:04, which converts to 14:50.5 in 2022 terms (due to 1.5% drop between 2019-2020 from the shows).
Thanks. Career best is 14:57 this year.
Closer in time, she ran 15:14 in December, 2019 on the superfast BU track. So that is a major deviation. Never an exact science.
The conversion for the performance equates to an AVERAGE performance with a PR of 14:51. When someone has a 14:51 PR, their average performance is slower than 14:51. The correct conversion would be around 10 seconds slower, I would think.
If you wanted to convert to PRs, you would need to link peoples best performances in XC to their track PRs (I currently link the averages). The problem with this is that peoples best performances are not actually good performances early on, so the ratings drift down throughout the season and people get confused.
But then again, I've spent all weekend explaining this...
Yes. Flashbacks to Meylan explaining the speed rating calculation and the magic Trotter rating.
15:14 in December is either past peak or very early season. People run fast but very rarely their "PR." So that would be in line with a more "average" performance of a 15:04 runner (I'm assuming the December 2019 performance was pre shoes, though I don't know).
Also, of XC makes up half of peoples running careers, around half of people will have their best performance in XC - i.e. they wont hit their "XC PR"
Just pointed it out. That meet is used to run very fast times because of the track design. Not sure about the shoe situation, but the track is blazing fast. Runners will generally pr there. But of course you can never predict how an athlete is feeling day to day.
Kelati also set the Joe Piane record of 16:01 in the same season - 2019 (the record that just got broken).

VALBY has graduated (w/ honors) from Florida, will she go to grad school??
Congrats to Kyle Merber - Merber has left Citius for position w/ Michael Johnson's track league
